Spectek 256MB Ram

I want to add Ram into my computer. I went to my near computer store. They want $46 for Spectek 256MB PC133 SD-RAM. Does is this a good deal?

Don't know anything about Spectek, but $46 is too high. Even with RAM prices moving up, your target price should be $20-$25, usually after rebate.

I picked up a stick at CompUSA yesterday. Micron chips 7.5ns on 3rd party board. $39.99 - $15 MIR = $24.99 (+ tax).

I'd put this in the CPU/Proccessors and Overclocking thread. Someone might have some experience with just how good this ram is. Don't buy it.

spectek is a subdivision of micron from what i understand. I bought 3 sticks of it not too long ago, 256mb sticks, may as well max out system memory that my board can handle. Runs fine in my 1.1ghz athlon system, now I am not overclocking it or anything though. But the chips are micron, I am sure it would overclock rather fine if i tried it.

if you check pricewatch, they're up to about $35 for 256MB of generic ram in a 16x64 configuration that generally only works on VIA chipsets... 64x4 ram generally costs a few bucks more (which is what this stuff probably is). after shipping, you'll pay about 45 bucks for it, so i'd say $46 bucks at a B&M store is an acceptable price if you don't want to deal with rebates, but by no means a hot deal.

I would ask for warranty info on this memory. I have gotten price sheets from a couple of local mom and pop computer stores and also looked over ads in a local computer paper to see if there are any bargains. Often memory warranty (when shown) is only a year. Too often these businesses buy from distributors who give them the best deals only on off brand products.

If this ram isn't cover by a lifetime warranty, then shop elsewhere.

$46 sounds reasonable.
The price of ram is skyrocketing, so if you want to add more RAM, do it fast.

Spectek == Micron. I purchased the 256MB 133 from buy.com about two months ago, it runs CAS 2 at 133 np.

16x64 is 128MB, 32x64 is 256MB.
the one doesn't work with intel chipset, so-called high density is 32x4 or 64x4 chip,
the one more expensive, work with every chipset, standard type is 16x8 or 32x8.
