All die sizes are within 5mm^2. The poster here has been right on some things in the past afaik, and to his credit was the first to saying 505mm^2 for Navi21, which other people have backed up. Even still though, take the following with a pich of salt.

$999 is a great price that will make 3090 potential buyers think twice. $649 is very good price considering 6gb more memory for $50 less and equal performance. However no DLSS and weaker ray tracing performance. 6800 is pointless.

I'm fairly sure that RTX 3080 Ti will be reality in not so distant future at around 949-999 € price range. There some driver annoyances with AMD (or lack of features - v-sync functionality with adaptive sync, not possible to force AF in DX12 titles, when LFC kicks in/changes tearing can happen - at least on my Renoir laptop) so if NVIDIA can offer similar performance at same price, I'd go that route myself.

Pure merchandising tactic. Good, better, best. Good is there to land leads with the low price, a low cost upgrade captures the value and a darn near double price best option makes you the profits.

It would be nice to see the 6800 priced a bit lower, but it also has 16GB of memory. But depending on what nVidia does with the 3070 pricing, we may see the 6800 go down some.

The 6800 has all of the features of the 6800XT, including ray tracing, just lower performance. DLSS is Nvidia proprietary but supposedly AMD is working on a similar feature.

Yeah, it's possible that it will be like the 2080Ti where AIB cards offer significant performance increases, if you don't mind the increased power draw. The RTX 3000 series appears to be pretty much tapped out in regards to overclocking. We'll find out soon enough.

Pretty good event by AMD, MALL did deliver the goods in the end. Ominous lack of any RT related benchmarks though. This will be interesting.

Nice to see that DirectStorage API feature made it into RDNA2, I was worried that it wouldn't with all the SSD focused gaming bonanza.

Who seriously questioned that? It's essentially Xbox Series tech, which the RDNA2 on there obviously has to support. Since Microsoft made that part of Windows with DirectStorage API it would have been very odd if RDNA2 on PC didn't support it as well.

(Sleazy Nvidia obviously had to put an own name on it like with everything.)

The 6800's problem isn't nvidia (yet), it's the 6800 XT with 20% more CU for $70 more (+12%).

Will Nvidia stop the 3070 launch announced for tomorrow now?

So 6900XT is not AMD exclusive and reference only after all?

If nothing else because nVidia will have been testing their own cards on Intel up until now so AMD had to have a level playing field to test their own cards.

It will be interesting to see what nVidia uses in the future - would be delicious to see them forced to use AMD Ryzen in time.

I forget if it was around the original Xen launch, but NVidia did have some marketing recommending their cards with Zen. It wasn't the high end cards, but they will use whatever CPU lets them show the card in the best light. AMD used Intel CPUs in plenty of instances

Hopefully this means people who want a 3090 for close to MSRP will actually be able to get one.

6800 is priced relative to the 3070 since AMD has nothing else to compete with it right now. Between the better average performance and the extra 8 GB of RAM it's got a case to make. It's on AMD's big die so they don't want to sell it for less than they can probably get and especially not at the same price as a smaller die from NVidia.

It looks like a bad value compared to the 6800XT (and is) but that also has a dual purpose of up selling people to a 6800XT. They're the same die so AMD obviously doesn't want to make the most cut down part the best value. That just kills sales of the other parts that use the same die and make more money.

6800 may look as a bad value but its costs are driven up by 16 Gbytes of GDDR6, while itse closest competitor, the 3070 seems slower and with less memory.

Indeed, though they did use the term "max settings" at least once.

As to whether "max settings" means everything and the kitchen sink + RT, we will have to wait and see.

Hopefully that denoising shader in the new FidelityFX toolset does not demand much on top of whatever the game does.

Not when the market has shown the ability to pay much higher prices and still consume massive quantities of products.

My personal price threshold is ~$350-$400 so we'll see if there is anything in my personal price bracket later.

Then again, I did end up getting into $800+ iphones because the resale was so stable. If that holds with GPUs I may step up.

Why, so we get cheaper stuff?
If they have the leading products, they will price accordingly to reinvest in R&D so people don't complain about "not being competitive"

A bundle would be a good idea though.

You don't start a price war when you can't supply enough to meet demand to begin with. All you accomplish is lower revenue and lower profit.
