Great, so the latest AMD processor is better than the latest Intel processor in a single benchmark by 10%, and cheaper by a fair margin to boot.

I could post some benches showing that the 8700K is only 7% better than the 2700X despite costing 25% more, and you can extrapolate the 10% IPC gains you've allowed.

How? An overclocked Ryzen 2700X beats stock 8700K. That doesn't devalue Intel's work. Because it's a completely unfair comparison to put an overclocked CPU against a stock CPU.
It is useless to even think about buying i7 8700(k) with r5 3600 out- there are no sidegrades, well except maybe gaming, we don't know
no one on this forum buys 370 EUR 8700K to look at it at stock, it just runs fine at 4,7GHz and with delid at 5GHz and then it is a competitor even to the 2700X MT
so if you have a chip from October 2017 that can do the same or more (ofc more power, price etc), you wont change it for r5 3600(x), there is no reason

if you buy a new PC, well we don't know about gaming, but except it there is little reason to buy anything from intel on the desktop ATM

The lack of any information on R3 parts is interesting. Any thoughts on whether those only come out later or if they're saving that information for another event?

The IPC also seems a bit better than what I was expecting as well. I was assuming that they'd probably be able to catch up to Intel, but in a few areas it clearly seems as though they've passed them. I'm not sure that if anyone here were told that five years ago that they'd be able to keep a straight face.

With first gen Ryzen the entry-level SKUs launched later during the product cycle. This time around it's even less important to have them out as Ryzen 2000 series will take that role with ease.

So looks like the Aorus Extreme will be the only X570 MB without active chipset cooling. Good job Gigabyte, that's a big plus.

The ASRock one did not have active cooling. Unless they somehow made a fan that looks like the Taichi logo.

Active cogweel cooling: not much airflow, but fascinating to look at.

Unfortunately if we "enhance" the Taichi product image we can see the fan silhouette hiding under that mask.

It has, fan is hidden, just like one of the MSI models.

Im not so sure about Gigabyte, it says somewhere that it is passive?

my favourite MB brand
lets hope b550 isn't so power hungry and doesn't require a fan

I didn't see any info of B550? anyone some news?

I wonder how many cores?

That sounds like it could be a very impressive product.
A lot can happen in a year. I wouldn't be surprised it's an 8C chip and that it comes sooner with atrocious TDP/thermals.

The high-end boards are gonna be expensive aren't they?

Probably, and what are they going to deliver for that price is one of my biggest questions.

They will have Pcie4 and thats great and all, but with AMD at such small desktop market share compared to intel, and intel not releasing pcie4 on desktop for years, who is going to make all these pcie4 devices? Im thinking with such a small market for them to sell to pcie4 devices are not going to be common until intel gets on board.

You are correct, no one who spent so much money on an 8700K, delidding it and buying a custom cooling solution is going to tear it down to build a Zen2 system around a Ryzen.

That also does not mean that the Ryzen 3000 series is inferior to Intel's latestin gaming or otherwise.

There's no reason to expect B550 would require active cooling, AFAIK only X570 will be based on the older Epyc chipset, B550 should be similar with previous gen chips.

so 300EUR+ boards, pretty much the effect of amd better dissapears
The AMD better effect is fine and dandy with $120-$200 B450 & X470 boards.

The flagship Gigabyte board is expected to come in at around $600 according to Gamers Nexus.
