ASMedia to finish tape-outs for PCIe 4.0 chip solutions by end-2019
ASMedia has landed orders for AMD's B550 and A520 chipsets that support PCIe 3.0 and will kick off shipments to motherboard ODMs and OEMs in the fourth quarter of 2019. The company is expected to be able to win orders for PCIe 4.0-based chipsets from AMD in 2020 after the tape-outs are smoothly done, the sources said.

As Ian Cutress points out on Twitter, the boards may still support PCIe 4.0 on the main PCIe slot and main M2 slot from the CPU.

Well I guess this answers my questions as to B550 availability. Next year folks.
That is a long time to wait.

Is this because AMD are still somewhat resource starved, or is this always going to be the case going forward?

I realise that one can get a x470 board for the time being.

I think the 470 is going to fill the B550 role for the immediate future.

B550 is for 2020 based on rumors.

an other interesting rumor 7nm APU will also arriving just before the year ends Will be about the same time as 7nm threadripper probably.

His stuff was interesting to read. Where does he post now?

OCN, sometimes. Maybe elsewhere.

Hmm, interesting. Renoir or Dali?

edit:

Not sure if this deserves its own thread, but . . . according to WCCFTech:

https://wccftech.com/exclusive-amd-...ore-threadripper-landing-as-early-as-q4-2019/

Q4 2019.

2020 for PCIe4 versions :

"Taiwan's ASMedia Technology is expected to complete tape-outs for PCIe 4.0 interface chip solutions by the end of 2019, seeking to strive for more contract design orders from AMD in 2020, when the US chipmaker's chipsets enter the PCIe 4.0 era, according to industry sources.

AMD was so quick with PCIe 4 chipset support because their chipsets are the same silicon as the IO die. It seems their design philosophy is modular and scalable throughout the company's products.

Shipping chipsets Q4 2019 to MB makers = B550 next year for consumers. Late 2020 for PCIe 4 versions.

I read somewhere months ago intel is rumored to be skipping PCIe4 and going straight to PCIe5.
Don’t remember the facts but it was something like intel wouldn’t be ready for it until 2020 and they have plans to be ready for PCIe5 in or around 2021.
Sort of a placeholder technology or something like that.
Wish I remembered more but the thing I read made sense.

We may see MBs in november, it wont take long after shippement for the chips to be soldered, since they are PCIe 3 only they can even use existing 450/470 MBs designs.

Nah Asmedia was supposed to give PCIe 4.0 motherboards by the end of the year. So AMD did x570 on their own. It turns out Asmedia failed to do even that.

I'd suggest that this means that Ryzen 4000 will be on AM4 for sure, otherwise these mobos would be a little late for the party.

Maybe AMD is going to be on 7nm+ (ZEN3) by mid Q2 (instead of mid Q3 now)
TSMC is going so fast that AMD may not be able to keep up with designs.

Probably Renoir, I would guess similar design to the xbox and playstation hardware.

Not so sure about that. Project Scarlet is supposed to have a Navi that exceeds the 5700XT in power. Plus GDDR6 for the whole system, I think? And different cache layouts to deal with the latency that comes with GDDR6.

That would put Renoir in November. Pulling that chip forward would be big. It would also be really bad for Picasso. As a consumer, I am not worried about anyone orphaning Picasso.

Wish I remembered more but the thing I read made sense.

Makes sense. Intel has very few publicized plans for desktop/HEDT in 2020. Just more 14nm stuff. So why go through the expense of major platform changes? Sadly, for Intel, that means falling behind in other areas as well.

Yes it does, the A320 is now certified poop.
So are most of the 300 and 400 series motherboard with lacking feactures (vs 500 series) and weak vrms. But if not PCI-E 4.0 is confirmed i dont think that B550 and A520 will end up to be too diferent from B450 and A320 chipsets.

Except your argument was price, and I think it will be a lot more than the a320, more than the b450.

Is all about money at the end of the day. The point is that they did bother to replace it, thats not a small thing, this means A320 was not as worthless as some belived. For the end price well see.

I would not be so sure about that now, as some manufacturers are launching bios for A320 with ComboPI, so as long AMD did not Agesa locked the A320 should work, and there still B350/X370 boards whiout ComboPI bios.

As things are now, it may end up differently compared to what i belived 2 weeks ago, unless there is some Agesa trick here nearly all 300 boards will support Ryzen 3000, including A320.
