Well I've got him to read Wikibooks How to Beat a Speeding Ticket, but he's all scared and paranoid right now.

I hope the cop does show up, 40 in a 20.

Tell your "friend" to stop trying to maim or kill little kids.

To my friend's defense, it was a main arterial with a 40 speed limit. And, it was around 11 at the time (there shouldn't be children on the streets at 11). The school isn't directly located on that street.
But I agree, it does look bad and the cop has some extra incentive to show up to this one versus a non-school-zone speeding ticket.

If you pay the fine, pay with a check and add $1 extra to the bill. They will send you a check for 1$ refund, but don't cash it, that way they can't close the case.
Heard that from an old friend who had about 12 points on his license.
