Speeding up file transfer between Linux and Vista?

I've got Clark Connect set up as my router and file server and my main computer is Vista x64. Both boxes are using quality Intel Gigabit network cards.

File transfer:

Windows -> CC: 25MB/s
CC -> Windows: 8.27MB/s

The speed of CC -> Windows used to be a measly 5MB/s.

Looking around the CC forums gave me two things to tweak:

In etc/firewall I commented out the following lines:

BANDWIDTH_UPSTREAM_BURST=3000
BANDWIDTH_UPSTREAM_CBURST=3000
BANDWIDTH_DOWNSTREAM_BURST=3000
BANDWIDTH_DOWNSTREAM_CBURST=3000

In smb.conf I did two different things:

I commented out SO_RCVBUF=8192 and SO_SNDBUF=8192 in Socket Options (TCP_NODELAY is still there)
I also tried not commenting these out but instead raising their values by a lot.

So these tweaks have netted me a whopping 3MB/s increase.

I'm starting to think that the problem isn't on the Linux end, but on the Vista end. Are there any Vista tweaks I should do for this?

I've had problems before where my speed between Linux boxes depended on which one was initiating the transfer, and whether that machine was sending or recieving. For instance, with machine A and B, if I'm sitting at B and try to copy (send) files to A, I might get a slow transfer, but if I go to B and try to copy (receive) the same files, I might get a MUCH faster (several fold) speed. This was using the FISH protocol (SSH) through Konqueror. I found many posts about it on the Net.

I realize that this doesn't address your situation, but perhaps there is some ancillary information that would also apply to you, so I thought I'd at least mention it. I don't know that I ever found a fix, but I think as distros got updated, something that was broken must have gotten fixed because it is better now.

Vista has issues with network speeds. I recently installed SP1 RC and saw a dramatic increase in network speeds between my Vista x64 system and my Samba share.

use xp or server 2k3 in place of vista, or wait for sp1 -
I've burned days on this and these are the work arounds.

Make sure you've set the jumbo frame size to the maximum the NIC and switch supports for each PC.

Make sure it's using full duplex.

And, yeah, SP1 is essential at improving Vista's networking. Then tweak on top of that.

Vista is still beta imo even though it officially is not. I would never run that on a production system.
