Speedstream 2624 config woes

My roommate bought this stupid thing, and I'm havign all sorts of trouble setting up port forwrading. I want to go to the Virtual Servers page so that i can route remote desktop connections correctly. But when I try to access that config page, IE hangs and the page never loads. What's worse, it is it seems to kill the router so that no one can surf the web, renew IP address and i have to hit the reset switch to fix it... Anyone else seen something like that before?

I've got that router. Did you update the firmware?

Yup. I do.

Hm. Well, I'd try and access that config page from another computer, maybe even with a different web browser. If it still hangs/ kills the router, try to RMA it (assuming it's not too old... if it is, just dump the thing on FS/FT* or something and buy one of those $20 AR routers).

*(You'd want to note that one config page is inaccessible, of course... )

Well, it's my roommates, so I can't do much about it. Perhaps if i leave it in a crashed state often enough, she'll fix it.

Oh yea. And I just tried it from a freshly installed XP box. Still hangs.

lol, If I were her, I'd just block your IP and change the password on the router.

If you buy your own router (and they can be had for peanuts these days) you could plug it in to the cable modem or whatever and then plug hers into yours but disable her router's DHCP server and have a direct line from your system to the new router... voila

Nah, my main computer already has its own IP address. It's just that I was putting together a new computer for my dad and wanted him to remote-desktop into it and tell me if it needs more stuff on it. That router is such a piece of crap. One time i switched lan cards, so when i rebooted and got an IP from the router. For the next few days I could not figure out why i couldn't stream worth a crap. All streams would die after 10 mins and when they ran, they'd always get interrupted. And that was a mere audio stream on a 1.5/768 dsl connection. I might just get a 2nd machine to do the routing. Used to use an old windows server 2003 machine which was solid as a rock...
