Somebody needs to give you a beating for digging up old threads.

Will you be kind enough to give me that beating Mr. Internet tough guy?

A lot of old threads have been coming up again lately. What gives? Is the search function not sorting by date anymore?

If he gouges his eyes out he'll still have to listen to the interview.

I couldn't finish watching that. Too painful. But hey, he's homeschool + young + on TV. What did you EXPECT?

This has nothing to do with being homeschooled and everything to do with that kid being an idiot savant.

I know homeschooled kids, and let me tell you, 80% of them are messed up. Example, 2 years ago, a girl that was homeschooled came into the public system, 8th grade. We were playing soccer, and she was playing keeper. Ok, so i shoot, and i hit the girl square on the face. No joke, she yells "Why did you kick the ball at me!"

wtf? lol

What the hell is the deal with this kid? He's so rude. I guess I'd be a little bitter too if the highest point in my life was during my teens.

really its not his fault, its a bunch of helicopter parents gone to the extreme. I never knew anyone who was messed up this bad, but several kids I knew in high school (unfortunately they were all of Indian descent) had parents that were REALLY REALLY into their lives and some of them were messed up pretty bad. I mean there was this one guy whose parents main goal in life was to get him into the best college possible so in addition to making him get straight A's they made him do a varsity sport (swim team would give anyone who joined a varsity letter so he did that and sucked balls at it since he was 90 pounds), and learn piano (he was some sort of prodigy at this too and went to all kids of competitions), and also do volunteer work and such. Basically his whole life was spent crafting the perfect resume and he never had a second for free time. The saddest part is that these days alot of top tier colleges actually DON'T want this sort of applicant so he didn't get into MIT like he wanted, but did get into Berkley, so pretty well just as good.

As for those thinking people like this are some sorts of genius because they are a math prodigy and spelling champ and all that, it really isn't as true as you think. Just imagine all the time in high school you weren't working, you probably took the whole summer off and spent the weekends having fun etc. Now imagine your parents sent you to summer school all summer and forced you to study spelling words every night and weekend etc. You might be able to learn to be incredible at all these things, but the time you are learning all these skills you are not learning any social skills. Its a trade off really and I think this kids parents took it WAY WAY to far in terms of academic success. I just hope he can have a normal life, but he will probably be depressed later in life. People who meet him in college will think he is a jerk because he has no social skills, girls will never be near him because he is so awkward etc. Making fun of the guy just makes it worse, its not his fault he is like this, insult his parents not him, they are the ones to blame.

yep, you'll get a lot of that here too, with people reliving their glory years about how they won state in football/scored a 27 on their ACT's etc

pretty sad when your best days are behind you

well that just brings up a whole new set of issues if the best thing to ever happen in your life was winning the spelling be or a football title. I for one can guarantee you that whenever this kid gets laid it (assuming he isn't 40 at the time ) will about alot happier day than winning a stupid spelling bee.

Well, at least winning a state football game in high school comes from camaraderie and the whole team aspect helps to develop some kind of a work ethic as well as social skills. It could and most likely is the highest moment of someone's life athletically speaking, but certainly not the greatest moment of all.

I'm still pissed about how much the SAT and ACT were talked up in high school. After scoring a 32 on the ACT and not getting into my first or second choice schools I really regret ever taking some of the stuff seriously that I did in high school.
