just say it is slang and you can pronounce it anyway you want. I believe that's how ebonics work. Here in Oakland they tried to make something called ebonics an actual language. jus spell it howevr yu whunt and its ryet.

Yeah, it's even worse in articles, reviews, etc, to see spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes.

Still, it is annoying to be reading posts on forums, and to see so many blatantly obvious mistakes, that could have been very easily avoided, with very little effort.

But that's just my opinion.

I bear the mixed blessing of having been raised by two English teachers. I try to be tolerant of the poor grammar and spelling of others, but it is always a bitter pill.

In particular, the recent, widespread tendency of confusing "your" and "you're" is incredibly vexing to me, and I also grit my teeth at the "their/there/they're" phenomenon.

I think typos are understandable in the context of a relatively informal setting like a BBS, but seemingly deliberate errors in grammar and spelling just make me question a person's educational background - I guess I am a snob!

One that I often notice is that people claim to be "leary" of certain deals. I am leery about calling it to their attention however.

Yeah, I don't know how people can make so many mistakes... Guess they are just lazy then.

<< I have noticed, repeatedly, many spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes on forums all over the internet, including here at AnandTech.

What are your thoughts on this?

My thought is you don't have to be anal over it

Sometimes the person is too lazy, other times it's a typo, and there are some stupid people out there that can't spell anything right

The reason I mispell words is because I don't know how to spell them. That shouldn't be too hard to understand. I don't see words very easily; I read slowly, one word at a time. When I look away, I don't see words. I can't see them in my head, I have no memory of how they look so I have to spell by sound, like mississippi. It's tough to do that with every word. I look the same ones up over and over, like dilema. Have no idea if it's right.

2 things that haven't changed over the years:

1. people misspelling words on the internet, and
2. moonbeam posts

If someone is unable/unwilling to express themselves in an intelligent manner, why the fuck should anyone pay attention to what they have to say. They have already proven they don't give a fuck, so why should I?

What's that philosophy where it's easier to have some correct your incorrect statement than it is figure it out yourself?

There's clearly a law that says if you ever post a comment criticising another post's spelling or punctuation you will invariably make a spelling or punctuation error in that post itself.

I do worry, though, that eventually the distinction between "your" and "you're" and between "their" and "they're" will be lost completely, and they'll have to amend the dictionaries.

You were supposed to ask if it's Murphy's Law. You didn't say anything wrong in your post.

Yeah - that's the way I've always seen the joke. By saying it's Murphy's Law, then somebody correcting that statement, they've proven Cunningham's Law.

To my knowledge I have no autocorrection going on in my life. Now, in these forums when the software doesn't like my spelling it complains... but it doesn't correct it. I have to add some stuff! I own my mistakes... many of them!

To say it again (because it deserves it):
