I have to say I am a huge Spiderman fan but that movie was horrible. Sucks that they let Marvel take it over it was so much better when produced by Sony. About half way through the movie I kept saying to myself when is this going to end. On my scale I'd say 6/10.

Edit: I'm happy I went as I'm definitely going to see Rush Hour 3 and Balls of Fury.

This site lists movie ticket prices through the years:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/about/adjuster.htm

But there are other factors you have to consider as well:
- Population increases over time. If you're going to adjust for inflation, should you adjust for population?
- More movies are produced now than years ago. Should you consider the number of people who saw the movie as a percentage of all movie admissions for the year?
- We now have the ability to watch movies in our homes, which wasn't the case years ago.

In the end, you have to accept that there is no way to fairly compare movies from different eras, and the records will always be broken.

Hey, now Sony has more money to dump into the PS3.

Movies are so bad now I have not D/L one on over a year. Funny I don;t even want to waste a $.20 disc for a movie out there now.

I think me and wife have went to the movies maybe twice in the last year. We tried to go more but theres just nothing out there most of the time.

There are plenty of great movies every year. Just look beyond big-name A-list blockbuster Hollywood special-effects extravaganzas.

After watching Hot Fuzz, I doubt I'll enjoy any movie this year nearly as much.
Unless of course DH4 delivers...which I find rather unlikely.

I'm not complaining about movie prices as I don't mind paying 10 bucks for a film worth watching, but comparing Spider Man 3 at 10bucks a pop versus a movie in the 70's at 1.50 per ticket is insane.

Not to mention SP3 cost 250 million to make (seriously I thought this was joke)

It would be difficult to calculate number of tickets sold, as the theaters set their own ticket prices. When you see how much a movie makes, you don't see money from ticket sales, you see money the theaters paid for leasing it, which is negotiated before ticket sales even begin. The theaters pay more for the lease depending on their "engagement", or how long they have the rights to show the film before it's returned to the producer.

Beyond that I'm not sure how film lease costs are calculated and if ticket sales are ever widely reported.

That makes no sense. Prices does NOT equal tickets sold. WTF are you talking about.

Tickets should be tracked on number of tickets sold and printed from their computer/ticketing machine.

I wonder what would have happened to the format war if Sony did a "straight to Blu-Ray" release.

What's your point, again?

I'm sure they do count the tickets printed, but good luck getting every theater in the world to report their ticket sales. Theaters that have a profit-sharing agreement with the distributors will usually report their sales, but even then that's a $ figure, not a tickets sold figure.

I liked it too. It's not the best movie I've seen, but it was pretty good just not as good as all the hype made it seem like it was going to be.

I agree, although my son would say the movie is the best - minus the kissy stuff (he's hates those parts).

you forget budget or ...

it may break some profit records, but it also broke the budget record

how much did it cost to make:

Titanic - $200M+
Starwars - $9.5M
Shrek 2 - $70M

not to mention marketing budgets, I would say starwars still come out on top

Saw the movie last night with my girlfriend. I give it about a 5 out of 10. Very, very bad script.

With ticket prices at $10 almost here in Hawaii, it's no wonder movies are hitting records.

Try $10.25/ ticket in the Northeast U.S. This is not even considered a "major" metropolitan area.
