Saw this sucker in the backyard yesterday...looks colorful and venomous:

Most spiders are small, inconspicuous arthropods which are harmless to humans. Their beneficial role in keeping insect populations in check far outweighs the hazard posed by the few spiders that occasionally bite humans. Very few of the nearly 900 species of spiders in Texas can hurt people. Only two groups--recluse spiders and widow spiders-- are considered poisonous to humans.

I had one in my backyard and that was the best darn spider ever. The thing literally consumed the majority of locusts and grasshoppers in my backyard. Got tired of those bastards eating our plants.

Unfortunatly my dad killed it after about a month and a half. :frown:

My ex wife and I stood outside my house talking and she saw one. She told me to yell someones name at it. I asked why and she said that the spider is supposed to write the name in the web later and it will bring that person bad luck.

I looked at her, then at the web, then back to her.....then I shouted "Shannon!" (her name) at the web
