Spilled wine on laptop

Customer spilled wine on her laptop. Wants to know if it can be salvaged? I haven't looked at it yet. I am not sure what I would do if I did. I would guess that she is SOL, but is there some steps that could clean the wine off of the mobo? I read somewhere on AT about using distilled water and then letting it dry. Anywho, just trying to learn. Any ideas? tia

All you can do is dry it and try it. Wine has sugar in it, and as it dries, it leaves a residue, and that can be untold problems inthe keyboard. The distilled water would be to dissolve and rinse the sugar - but that really requires detailed disassembly. The mobo itself can be washed - but getting it out is a major operation. It certainly is worth a try.

I really grieve for the lost wine!

Haha, I spilled a full glass of red wine on a Dell laptop years ago (it had a Celeron 600mhz cpu in it, if that gives an idea how long ago). I completely disassembled it & used a combination of distilled water & rubbing alcohol to clean it off. This took a long, long time, but considering I didn't have the money to replace the laptop... The only thing I ended up replacing was the keyboard, basically because the replacement wasn't too expensive and I got real tired of trying to clean it up (wasn't worth the enormous amount of time).

It's still fine. We didn't clean it.
