5 year seagate vs. 3 year WD?
you'll almost never want to pay attention to specs on a hard drive, instead you'll want to look up online reviews from trusted sites if performance is your primary concern (whether it be speed, noise, band for buck...)
as far as warranties go, most users aren't going to notice or really care about the performance difference between different drives. Seagate doesn't really make the most impressively performing drives however they tend to have a favorable reputation when it comes to reliability and when you combine that with their 5 year warranty you'll get a lot of users who like to buy their drives just because they know they'll be covered should it ever die on them.
look at it this way:
if you only plan to have one drive you'll want to make sure you're covered, so a longer warranty might be a priority for you
if you run multiple drives you might make sure to get a very high performing drive (or set of drives for RAID) to install your OS/apps on and from there you add on more drives for storage...again, since those drives most likely do not really mean as much to you as far as performance goes, warranty might play the most important factor in knowing you're guaranteed to have that amount of storage space available to you for that amount of time.
