I couldn't stand this game. By far the least stealthiest one they've created. Most of the time time it felt like I was playing some other 3rd person shooter and not a tactical stealth game.

I've never played played a Splinter Cell game before.

I like Hitman...is the gameplay similar? Should I start with the original 2002 game or is that crap?

The first three games are all great, with the third (Chaos Theory) being the best of them. The series has gone downhill after that.

The closest comparison gameplay-wise is probably the Thief series.

game's fun when it works right. SP plays fine, but as soon as I start a MP Co-OP game with my friend the FPS drops to like 10 or below and it completely freezes every few minutes.

I read that the game syncs each player with the lowest player's fps or whatever, so if my friend has a crappy PC (which he does), I'm forced to suffer also... whomever thought that was a good idea needs to be fucking shot.

To all those out there worried about the DRM a certain group has made a perfectly working bypass I should say...installed it on my laptop and since Im away from internet quite a lot when traveling I needed a fix...works perfectly...just played and beat the whole game again completely offline with no issues. MP still doesnt work though...which isnt THAT big a deal...plenty of SP stuff to do to keep the game healthy for a while. Chaos Theory was still the best though...

I'm trying to do the challenge where you complete a level without firing a weapon. What is considered a level? I've done it in the main game and in deniable ops missions but I never get the achievement.

Is it all chapters within a section of the game or is it just 1 level, like the 1st one is St. Petersburg, in like a museum or something. I complete that 1st level and then have to go through the double doors and you get the 1st set of weapons stashes and I don't get anything.

and how do you do the one where you kill 15 enemies using the assault rifle without reloading? every time i shoot, it shoots multiple rounds, not just 1, so it's impossible to kill 15 enemies with 1 magazine.

This is the first splinter cell game I have played. I enjoyed it. I am not that good at stealth, so I did not miss that part. The only negatives to the game for me were the lack of a quicksave or at least more autosaves, and that it did not seem to have very good graphics for the hardware requirements. I did not have any crashes though, even though I have a low end system.

Are we plying the same game? There is tons of stealth to this game...

If you are refering to my comment, I guess I did not state clearly what I meant. I did not mean that there was not a good bit of stealth involved. I was thinking about reviews that said it was much less hardcore stealth than other Splinter Cell games (Gamespot review I believe). I dont know how true this is because I have not played any other splinter cell games.
For instance, there was only one level that I really hated. That was the level where you had to infiltrate headquarters and automatically failed the level if you were detected. It was even more frustrating because of the long interval between saves, and if you got detected near the end you had to play over the entire level.

(BTW, should I start a rant longing for the "good old days" of "real PC gaming" when you could save anywhere??)

i'm liking it, it's not as good as the old ones but it's decent with a good story. i agree they do too much hand holding, and i really miss night vision and dragging bodies around.

performance has been ok with my 5770 on 10.4a's. I had one crash on level 2 were the whole system locked up and reboot. turned off my video card overclocking and completed the level. other than that the cut scene/movie scenes stutter and skip but actual game play is fine.

one annoying thing, invert Y-axis (mouse) always turns itself off everytime i start the game. it never saves this setting for some reason.

Running on dual Mobility 4870's...runs excellently...a single 4890 or 5770 should have no problem running this game AT ALL...if you are, then something else is wrong!

I was gonna go 5850 but I'm tryin to save money (selling my current system to family + $ in bank = build new system)... if I had a fulltime job I'd def. go with 5850 but I'm just coming across temp/short work :\

But I did a lotta research into the 4890 and even if I have to upgrade down the road, well that's okay. They'll come down in price

Why would you buy a $60 single-player PC game with highly restrictive DRM?

It'll be $20 in a month. But it'll probably still perform badly.

I wouldn't even pay a dollar for UbiFail's "always online DRM" crippled games.

Especially given the fact that pirates are enjoying the superior version a day after release as the protection has been completely cracked at this point. If Ubisoft releases a patch that removes the DRM from their recent games, i'd happy buy a few of them as i'm a fan of some of the series they publish.

It has multiplayer

the DRM thing isn't so bad. No problems for me so far.

oh, and I paid $45 for it and also got Chaos Theory, the original splinter cell, and double agent for free.

FFS, can we through a thread without talking about the DRM?

Yes it sucks, but it's not going away anytime soon. You can vote for your wallet all you want, but it's not changing anything. So while you're not playing the game, I'm sitting here playing it, restrictive DRM and all. My internet connection is always connected anyway, and rarely do I have an outage. Even if I do, there's a shitload more games I could play anyway.

I used to bitch and whine about all the DRM schemes out there, but to be honest, I've yet to be locked out of a game. I reformat on a regular basis and can still play the games I enjoy.

So yea, I hate being treated like a pirate by game companies, but there's little I can do to change it.

FWIW, I also got in on the splinter cell deal. $46 for SC1, Chaos Theory, Double Agent, and Conviction. I've thoroughly enjoyed each one (except double agent... pure junk) and have gotten my money out of it.

Voting with your wallet and not supporting games with restrictive DRM sends a clear message to the publisher that their customer base isn't willing to put up with such nonsense. Since most gamers think along the same lines as you though, and don't think they can actually make any impact, publishers will continue to include this crippleware with their products.

So justify it as you wish, but buying these games is telling Ubisoft you think this is ok.
