Hello!

I've never played any of the splinter cell games before and I'm thinking about starting through some of them. I don't want to go back and play the super old ones but I would like to play some of the recent ones. I have two questions.

1. I have an Xbox 360 and a good computer. Intel Core 2 Due 6300 7900GT 2GB ram 24" LCD. Anyone have any opinion as to which it would be better experience to play it on? It's always nice to plop down on the couch to play a game but if the controls are a whole lot better on the PC and it adds to the experience, I'm totally down with that.

2. Which Splinter Cell should I start from?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

i've played all the SC games, but you can really play any of them without touching the others. they all start out with the basics so you know all the controls. double agent (#4) added a new element to the series (playing off both sides), so you might want to start with chaos theory (#3) just because the gameplay changes a bit between the 2.

as far as pc v xbox, aiming a gun is easier with a mouse and keyboard, but the xbox control scheme is pretty intuitive for the most part. it probably comes down to if you want to sit at a computer desk and play or play in front of a bigger tv.

Start with Chaos Theory (the 3rd one) and then go on to Double Agent. I would advise to play neither on the PC, as CT had that icky starforce protection on it, and DA is a terrible port that runs like garbage. If you wanted to play any of the first 2 then those are fine on the PC and would be a good starting point.

Thanks!

I'll go ahead and start with CT on the 360. After that I guess I need to play Metal Gear Solid too huh. I feel like I can't call myself a gamer unless I've played through these games.

CT has Starforce on it but it's actually pretty easy to remove (easier than some other things like Securom) once you are aware that it's on there. You can play through the game and then get rid of it. I'm not sure how the 360 version plays, but the PC version was the best game I've played in the last five or six years. You definitely want to stay away from DA on the PC, although I believe the 360 version doesn't run well either. The two older games still look decent by today's standards and are also worth playing.

I disagree about Double Agent (PC) being a "terrible port that runs like garbage". I recently played through it on a mid-spec system with high (not highest) detail settings. I only noticed a bit of a slow-down on one mission (the cruise ship). Otherwise, it ran just fine and looked very nice visually.

I would say that Chaos Theory is the best in the series thus far. But, Double Agent does bring some unique new elements into play.

As far as controls, 360 or PC... As previously mentioned, mouse aiming is nice, but the controller setup is really well thought out, especially when it comes to things like lock picking. Something interesting to note. Out of the box, DA on the PC supports Xbox controllers without any reassigning. Works just like on the Xbox, with vibration.

I would start with the first one and work my way up. The graphics aren't very old and they have some good gaming moments.

I played it on both the PC and the 360. I don't think there's too much of a difference, but I think the PC was easier to play on. But it would probably be less buggy on the console.
