Yea that's what I don't understand. What type of car does he want?

I would love to get the Corvette, but it's just a little unpractical right now. I'm occasionally called upon to be a designated driver

Yet you are looking at Mustangs? I made the same mistake when I was car shopping, talked myself out of 'Vettes partly due to the lack of back seat.

I assure you, the back seat of a Mustang is utterly useless unless you go drinking with 10 year olds. Or perhaps people with no legs.

out of those 3, the 335i. my brother has one and its one of the best cars (and best engines) to date. camaro and mustang arent bad either, but it depends on how much you want to pay and if you like the drive/performance/features/interior of them. to be honest, i dislike the camaro and mustang interior so much.

Nobody wants to crawl out of the backseat of a 2-door at a bar (presumably to pick up women), yet everyone wants to ride shotgun in a Vette. If being a DD is your reasoning for dropping the Vette, I think you should drop the Mustang and Camaro as well. Stick to sedans. There are still plenty of great 4-doors.

Haha, yea me too.

That said, as others have mentioned.... you have a strange selection of cars OP. Given the price range, have you considered the 370z? It looks amazing and performs extremely well. I can't say which performs better (335i or 370z) but if you want a sporty car, I think the 370z certainly looks/feels much sportier.

OP should throw in the G37 as well since he's all over the place.

Audi S4
Reviews have claimed that the engine is even better than BMW's twin turbo I6.

If it were my money, I would get a used Maserati Quattroporte.

Look at all the comments claiming it to belong to an Aston. Ignore the people who said SRT-8, American v8s always sound deeper and burlier for some reason. Only V8s from Europe can sing like this one...

The 2011 Mustang is the same as the 2010 except for more powerful V8 and V6 engines.

And 1 more gear...

Also, the Coyote is supposed to be lighter than the 4.6, which should help the Mustang out a bit more.

Exactly so it could feel like a totally different car which is why I won't comment.

strange cars to cross-shop. the bmw will be the "nicest", but when you're by yourself and nobody is looking and pointing at you being white trash, let's be absolutely honest that mustang will be the most fun of the lot. And assuming no cops are around when you gun it at the lights it will turn the most heads.

The maintenance on a Quattroporte will cost as much as the payments on a Mustang GT, plus it's an entirely different category of car. Personally I also think it's ugly as hell, but that's obviously subjective.

 I like your thinking, but I hope that my current car will make it until the new Mustang comes out. I also hope that there won't be any hype like the Camaro--I don't want to pay higher than MSRP for anything.

It depends on what you want.

Do you want...

Comfort, chassis balance, luxury, sporty, stylish, roundel

or

Sporty, fast in strait line, transformer stylish, heavy, big

or

Sporty, good balance, stylish, great price (compared to the other 2).

If I were to have $50k to throw around and those 3 were my only choices, 335 hands down... although the new 3 series are coming out soon so it might look outdated.

The new 3 won't come out until the 2012 model. The 3 coupe is getting a mid life upgrade in March 2010.

Also, Audi S4 might just fit in that price range. That new supercharged engine is sweet stuff.

There are tons of used 335i's on the market, I'm looking at a coupe myself, they have the maintenance up to 50K still and the normal warranty up to 100K, which is even better than if you bought new.

The new S4 is very nice, but let's be real, the one you want isn't the base model at 46K, you would want that trick rear diff and associated go fast bits - which puts the S4 much closer to 56-58K, which is comparable to a new 335i with the same options, but that is still a huge amount of money -almost M3/C63 money for the base.

S4 > 335i > '11 Mustang GT > Camaro

IMHO

And since it was mentioned in the thread, I'd put the CTS right below the S4 and slightly above the 335i.

The 335i is a beautiful car, I <3 the coupe, I've been inside, haven't driven them unfortunately.

The 2011 Mustang is awfully tempting, but until hard numbers and facts come out, I'd consider the 335i as the safest bet.

If the stang gets 400HP for less than $35k that would be my pick. The bimmer is a sweet car but for the money for a fast car I would go with the stang.
