Splitting Screens on Widescreen LCD Monitors

I just picked up the Soyo 24" LCD panel from Officemax and it's beautiful. However, now that I got it all set up, I now realize how huge it is. I want to be able to fully utilize my newfound space by essentially splitting the screen in half. Basically seperating my screen in two cells as if I had two smaller monitors. I read somewhere that with an NVidia graphics card, they have a feature which creates a grid and separates windows into cells. I happen to have the BFG 7900 GS so I did some searching online, but couldn't find any guides or instructions on how to set that up. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I used a utility called gridmove that's free. I stopped using it because I don't really work well when constrained like that. The way I use windows doesn't fit into a grid scheme 95% of the time.

Just google it. edit: oh yeah, and there's a lot of other utils to do the same thing too.

You mean you want to be able to maximize a window and have it only spread out to half the screen? That sounds really useful now that I think about it.

Yes that is exactly what I want to do.

I was actually looking for something that would basically turn my large monitor into two smaller monitors. It looks like gridmove simply cascades the windows into the defined cells. However if you maximize any of the windows, it still maximizes to the full screen. Windows XP already has a feature for cascading windows by holding CTRL and clicking on the various taskbar buttons. Then you right-click to cascade vertically or horizontally. Thanks for your help though.

Hey just joined but assume your question got answered if not I use a 24" moniter with "splitscreen" works very well. I paid (work paid) but its pretty flexible.

It's in the nvidia nView desktop manager. First turn it on then look on 'user interface' tab. Enable display gridlines, then set it up how you want (you'll probably also want nView maximize which is in the options of gridlines editor, it changes 'full-desktop maximize' to 'grid-area maximize' like in the linked screenshot).

It would be cool if there was a piece of software that let me move the divider line by dragging it. Depending on what programs I am using, I want the line in different places. And these places aren't always at nice intervals like 1/4 or 1/3.

What would be ideal is if I could hold down some key combo and drag the divider line left and right across the screen.

I don't think you can get nView anymore. nVidia doesn't have it on their site except with Quadro drivers...
