For those who still claim white privilege doesn't exist get a load of this...
Wealthy brat Ethan Couch killed four people, including a mother and daughter, while blacked-out drunk and driving 70 mph on a rural road in June. Defense attorneys said the boy suffered from 'affluenza' and blamed the boy's parents, saying they gave him everything he wanted and didn't teach him about consequences.

So if you have privilege, status and money that absolves you from any responsibility for manslaughter?? They even made up a word for it, "affulenza"??! As if you can take some zinc pills and it goes away.

And you wonder why minorities claim they can't equal justice in this system. Remember that the next time a black teen goes to jail for pot possession.

So why aren't the parents of the 4 minorities he ran over protesting and demanding justice?

""Money always seems to keep [Couch] out of trouble," Eric Boyles, who lost his wife and daughter in the wreck, told the Star-Telegram newspaper."

After this joke of the "justice" system, it'd be all over for that kid if that guy was me. What a F'ing joke.

Who said he did? I believe that protest will come out in the civil suit. At a minimum at least there was an arrest and trial.

Only justice those families have left is to take him and his family to the poor house.

Don't have to be a rich white kid to get probation for intoxicated manslaughter in Texas. A sentence of 10 year probation is not rare in Texas. It's not common either. Probation is more likely than the max 20 year sentence. The average is under 10 years but up to 15 is also fairly common. I know of several fairly recent cases where 10 years probation was given in Texas. One involved a 24 Hispanic women that crashed and killed her infant daughter and another of involved a 17 year black male. There are others like the 20 year old daughter of a juvenile court judge who got 10 years probation and there was also a 26 year old white guy given the same sentence in the same county as this case not to long ago. If people in Texas don't like 10 year probation they should complain to their state legislators and have them do away with the it being the minumim sentence.

Oh and the Hispanic women was later arrested for DWI again and is currently serving a long sentence. The Judge mentioned above is no longer on the bench. I believe she got voted out the following election.

Reports said the kid was driving his dads company's vehicle at the time of the crash. Unlike most DWI manslaughter cases the families will be receiving financial compensation and it will actually be paid do to the above fact, the company(and its insurance) will be on the hook.

What I find truly disturbing is this kid had prior run ins namely being caught with a naked and unconscious 14 year old. Nothing ever came out of that which is unusual.

Remember... get the guns off the streets!

Cant have a handgun until 21 but we put 15 year olds in control of killing machines without a second thought!

OJ was white? Who knew.

Oh wait, the idiot OP didn't realize this was wealth privilege, not white privilege.

Difference, OJ and GZ found not guilty because lack of evidence to convict.

This kid was found guilty but because his parents are so rich and privileged they didn't teach him right from wrong and he is not responsible so no jail. BTW - something most people here decry for inner city crime.

Financial compensation but the punk *still* doesn't get punished. I've seen this behavior before in two instances, both of them are still morons who cannot succeed in life. They need to be taught a lesson eventually.

Meanwhile we're more than willing to throw 16 year old kids into prison for smoking pot or doing some other drugs.

Man oh man that kid is going to get punsihed so bad. I bet he won't be allowed use of any kind of driving game for at least a day or two. And and and I just know he's gonna get so depressed and humiliated to find out that he might even have to have his parents send a postcard to the victim's families sympathizing with them for their son being in the immediate area of the unfortunate incident.

Well, it's been my experience that what goes around comes around, and for this kid the come around is gonna have some serious gravitational whip sling along with it.

If you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime. Thankfully, job creators can.

lol, half of you retards want to cut taxes for these fucksticks and make it easier for them to accumulate and hoard wealth.

"Hmm, yes, the wealthy are able to increase inequality, buy our government, buy 'justice'. Lets cut their taxes so they have even MORE power than they currently do." - Conservative logic.

I wonder how many more of these travesties and miscarriages of justices perpetuated by plutocrats like these assholes before the republican party/tea party completely cease to exist. Do the wealthy have to start mowing people down indiscriminately with machine guns for sport and buy judges off in plain view before people rise up?

Edit: more examples of this:

This rich asshole killed 2 brits (and fled the scene/lied about his involvement) and got 2 years house arrest at his mansion (the horror!)

http://jonathanturley.org/2011/06/0...id-jail-after-writing-a-check-to-the-victims/

Then there was that wall street exec who ran over some guy (i think he was a judge too), fled the scene, and got no jailtime.

What does race have to do with anything? You're just helping perpetuate race issues by making it a point in the first place. The issue is 1) The kid who did something stupid and managed to kill people in the process is getting off easy. Yes, that is definitely something to be angry about, and it wouldn't surprise me if money had something to do with it...

The Couch family will tie up the 5 law suits in civil court for years, then eventually pay out a few million that they can easily afford (assuming insurance doesn't cover any of it.)

I'm not sure that there's much to be gained by throwing a kid in prison for drunk driving though. On the flip side, I doubt time spent in Malibu at a "treatment facility" is going to change his attitude.

Putting the kid in jail is really the only appropriate thing to do in cases like this. He's not going to learn a fucking thing except "money gets you out of trouble" by getting probation for killing 4 people...20-life MIGHT cure his severe case of affluenza.

The fatal crash occurred on June 15 when Couch, loaded on booze and Valium, lost control of his speeding Ford F-350 pick-up and smashed into a broken-down car beside a road outside Burleson.

Authorities said Couch was going 70 mph on the rural 40 mph stretch, and a breath test showed his blood-alcohol-content was .24 — triple the legal driving limit for someone over 21.

During the trial, prosecutors said Couch and his pals had been partying with beer they stole from Walmart, and were on another booze run when the crash occurred.

In all, 11 people were injured. Local authorities said the crash scene was the most horrific they've encountered.

The kid really needs a wake-up call...and having his hands slapped ain't gonna do it.

Sometimes it isn't about rehabilitation...it's about punishment for actions.

The purpose of a gun is to kill. The purpose of a car is transportation. Get a brain please.

I'm not sure how that's relevant. Cars kill more people than guns, regardless of the PURPOSE; doesn't make cars less dangerous than firearms. Bathtubs & swimming pools have a high kill rate too, i'm sure they weren't designed for killing either. .

Anyway. . .a decent chunk of those motor vehicle deaths are caused by teenage drivers. Maybe we should reevaluate the idea of giving 3,000lb killing machines to children.

This fucker should be hung by his balls in a public square and beaten to a slow agonizing death. The family's money should be dispersed amongst the family and friends of those lost.
