Yah, that's the point. It's all about the fucked up prejudices we have. That's why black people are deemed more of a threat, and sentenced to longer sentences. It's why men are given far longer sentences as well.
The child abuse gender disparity is kind of a special case. The woman doesn't get off lighter only because she's a woman, although I'm sure that plays some role. But there's simply a lot more cultural background that makes having sex with underage girls interpreted as more egregious than having sex with underage boys. Most significantly, the fact that the girl can be impregnated and can be stuck with a rape baby that she's not able to take care of. And rationally or not human history has generally valued female sanctity and virginity more than male.
I get the feeling that going forward men who have sex with boys will also be judged less harshly than men who have sex with girls (at least once the lingering gay taboo is overcome)
Money only gets you so far. Child molesters are about as low as you can get on the pecking order, even among criminals.
It's also a high profile case where the judge couldn't possibly hope to escape heavy scrutiny for an especially lenient sentence.
Jared wasn't really that wealthy anyway, or at least not to the point where he'd have a lot of leverage with a multitude of corrupt officials.
Despite that, what money Jared had arguably was still a factor in his sentencing, since his plea bargain included paying the victims over a million dollars. Were he not able to pay out anything like that it would have surely made his sentence more severe.
