If the mother did help her son to run from authorities then I hope she gets to see the inside of a jail cell. Her son was basically let off for killing four people was because he had rich, shitty parents. They failed him and now that he may have broken the terms of his probation she is now trying to hide him from the consequences of another poor decision on his part. Toss his ass in prison for the balance of his sentence and toss her ass in the jail for a year for assisting in his escape.

They would both learn a bit about reality and how wealth can't always save you from it.

I'm having trouble understanding this. Seems like the kid only has to speak by phone to the officer once a month? I read another article that him & his Mom rented their place for the summer and they haven't lived there in a couple of months, nobody stops by to check on the kid? Didn't his Father try to leave the country when charged, why does he still have a passport?

This kid and his parents are idiots. He basically gets a total reprieve after recklessly kiling four people and maiming two others. Then he violates probation by drinking. But instead of going to court and getting maybe 30 days tops, he elects to leave the country...

How spoiled does someone have to be when his own mother will aid and abet him escaping such a trivial punishment by taking it on the lam with him and putting herself in legal jeopardy, along with heightening her son's jeopardy to where he'll probably do a year or more now if he gets caught.

This is some twisted shit. I agree with the person above who suggested alcohol (and/or substance) abuse by one or both parents.

Just heard on the radio the state police & feds have received two dozen tips so far.

Running? Stupid. Running but not going far? Rrrrrrrrrreally stupid.

Did this woman somehow not understand that her son is a modern day pariah who has already been all over the news and intarweb?

If a guy like Whitey fucking Bulger (while truly evil, not stupid) can get run down and caught, these two clueless idiots won't be on the lam long.

I doubt he would have even gotten 30 days if this was his first violation. PO's generally don't want to throw you in jail and will only do so after multiple serious violations. I guess he could have had a real hard ass for a PO but over the years I spent in the roofing industry I had quite a few guys work for me who were on probation. The majority of them screwed up a few times and none of them even had to see a judge over it. I think one guy had to take an extra class over one of his fuckups or something. I did have two people arrested on job sites and at the shop but they flat out blew off their PO and the terms for 6 months or something. Even then they only had to serve 15-30 days and not their full sentence.

Basically as long as you talk to them you and don't fuck up too bad your chances of going to jail are very low. Drinking at a party (haven't heard anyone claiming he drove drunk) while being a violation was very doubtful to land him in jail. Running will land his ass in jail and they won't be very quick to let him out since he is a known flight risk. Not to mention how high profile this case is, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they make him serve the entire 10 years now.

And if the US Marshals really want you, they will get you. One thing that dumb (even smart) rich folk can't do very easily is to live on the run. You can only carry so much cash without getting caught, robbed or killed and they are used to a high lifestyle. I bet there is already a credit card trail.

If they have made it to a non-extradition country it will be amusing to see how they live once all of their accounts and credit cards are frozen.

If they weren't out of the US before the Marshals got called in they are incredibly stupid and will be caught within a week or two, if it takes that long. It's damn hard to live off the grid these days at all but to live off the grid with your picture posted all over national news is damn near impossible for people that know what they are doing. I highly doubt these numbnuts have any clue and even if they did I doubt even more that they are willing to live the lifestyle it requires without sticking their heads up for some of the nicer things very soon.

If you kill four people in a DUI regardless of age I think the least you can do is be banned from drinking for the rest of your life. Justice system completely failed on this one.

Breaking:

The two have been detained in Mexico.

I wonder if we can convince Mexico to keep him locked up in their jail system for the next ten years or so. That ought to provide a complete cure for his affluenza, he'll get some valuable experience on what happens when shit gets real.

And like many real-world criminal-justice stories over the past several years, I predict that "Law and Order" will soon offer up a new episode, beginning with the disclaimer: "Any similarities between this drama and past events is purely coincidental. . . " et ---cetera.

And actually, young Ethan resembles a character in a couple L&O episodes: a young man as a CSI, who early in his characterization seems a bit too animated and unbalanced. Later, to cover up evidence, he kills somebody, injures Stabler, and is undone by Benson.

He'll likely get hired again for an encore performance as an "Ethan somebody."

Good luck in policing that ban.

Hiding out in PV? I guess their hearts just weren't in it or couldn't get as much cash as they needed to last a little longer.

Still, it would be awfully hard for a couple of typical wealthy-ish Americans to have the street smarts or connections to be able to disappear out into the world.
