Hiding out in PV? I guess their hearts just weren't in it or couldn't get as much cash as they needed to last a little longer.

Still, it would be awfully hard for a couple of typical wealthy-ish Americans to have the street smarts or connections to be able to disappear out into the world.

I thought this too. Anywhere you can completely disappear is not a place for a soft papered person.
In a weird way I was hoping he'd do something similar (without deaths) in Thailand or Singapore then see what justice is like.

Mexico is pretty corrupt. For the right price I'm guessing he can make them see things his way.

There are meds you could give, but not sure how legal that would be

I'm sure they could tell him he must take the drug daily if he wants to stay out of jail.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disulfiram

Disulfiram
Disulfiram (sold under the trade names Antabuse and Antabus) is a drug discovered in the 1920s[1] that is used to support the treatment of chronic alcoholism by producing an acute sensitivity to ethanol (alcohol). Disulfiram works by inhibiting the enzyme acetaldehyde dehydrogenase, which means many of the effects of a "hangover" are felt immediately after alcohol is consumed.

You'd think that they would at least have tried to get to a non extradition country. Eventually they would have had their credit cards turned off and would probably be begging to come back then but they would have at least made it longer.

Yeah, they could have made it easily if they went somewhere less touristy and gave up some luxury to drop off the grid. But they went to a beach resort and kept using their cell phones. Money is not a cure for stupid.

Anyone with a real drinking problem would still drink this wouldn't stop them.

Uh, they would stop. Antabuse has been around for a long, long time and is rather effective.

Alcoholics are alcoholics because they go from intoxication to intoxication, rarely letting the purge (hangover) occur between binges.

It essentially inhibits the increased tolerances that alcoholics have, making every drink a rather "unpleasant" instant hangover. You never experience the pleasant effects of alcohol if you are on this drug regularly. You can't really go about drinking if your time is now spent doubled over in bed or with your head over the toilet.

He will probably get house arrest at worst. They are probably connected in the moneyed Texas innercircle. Usually those folks never get more than a slap on the wrist. He kind of looks like a halfwit, low genetic quality offspring.

I'm betting that because of all the publicity over the light sentence he originally received as well as his subsequent flight, he does a year for this. He should do the whole 10, but I'll predict 1 year.

While I hate your prediction, I don't have one. The only prediction I now offer anyone at the moment involves the timing and location of the next school-terror-hoax: either Nevada or South Carolina, and it might not happen.

Within the last hour, the news has brought up comment from their criminal justice analysts. There is a possibility that the old conviction for Ethan may be overturned, and he could get the whole 20 years -- not 10.

And since they now have determined that his mother had aided and abetted his flight, she, too, will face jail time, although I don't know if it was a possible 6 years or 10 years.

Now that she faces trouble, I'm wondering just how much of a dream-team either of them will have for the next go-around in court. Maybe the best that money can buy, but the Tarrant County prosecutors and judges may not be so willing to go along this time. What sort of juries would be chosen?

Unfortunately my prediction was too optimistic. This article says the maximum he faces is 120 days of jail time:

http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/29/us/affluenza-teen-ethan-couch-detained-in-mexico/index.html

If he ends up on adult probation (as opposed to juvenile court probation), then violates it in the future, he could face serious time. But not for this. At least we can be certain that 120 days will make him whine and cry like a little bitch because he's so spoiled.

Maybe they'll prosecute the mother. I doubt she'll do time. We'll see.

I was right; they're both retarded. PV? Are you kidding me?

Alcohol. It's a helluva drug.

I'm with Gag on this one: let's ask Mexico to incarcerate them and we'll honor time served.

Let's not go overboard on vilifying wealth though, it doesn't always lead to this. My fathers family qualifies as 'filthy stinking rich,' but I performed errands and chores to earn an allowance before I started working actual job at 13 or 14. Worked part time and did a side gig cleaning boats in HS. Bought my own car, my own clothes, and worked at least one job all throughout college. My parents made it clear they didn't have any interest in raising trust fund children. We have WW2 and Vietnam vets in the family as well, no 5 consecutive deferments like Cheney or Trump over here.

I'd really like to see a judge, a REAL judge, just throw the damn book at this pair. I've never expected any special treatment due to my family, and couldn't be more for cases like this being made into an example. Affluenza strikes me as a disease that recoils from examination, from having light cast upon it. Well Judge, make an example here! Illuminate for others the kind of behavior that is unacceptable.

I think revoking his license permanently would serve society better. with 10 year probation that's likely to be pullled he'll get out eventually.

Not to worry too much folks, that kid will forever be running away from the monster he abjectly despises and fears the most: Himself.

Oh, and let's not forget the four ghosts of those he killed. They'll be haunting him whether awake or asleep til the day he dies.

There's nowhere he can run or hide.

And there's not any amount of money that he can acquire to buy his way out of the horror of a life he's made for himself.
