Yes, I know that's a bit naive and idealistic, but in this particular case the fault is clearly with the judge. He had the power to tell rich mommy and daddy to ah heck off and toss the miserable brat in jail, but didn't do it.

And I did the same shit as a teenager. I remember stealing lobsters, wine and vodka in the 8th grade and waking up in a pool of vomit. I am now a productive member of society. Point is that teenagers do not think of consequences. There should be consequences for his actions but they should be less than those for a grown adult.

Of course if a member of my family had been killed by the kid's actions my opinion would be markedly different...

Actually, no treatment center has currently been approved. The Texas Department of Juvenile Justice has to approve of the facility, not the judge. The TDJJ could decline his parents offer to pay for his treatment and put him in a different facility.
