I just built a very basic system - tbird 1.33, 256 ddr, 40 gig HD, LG Burner on a SIS based motherboard (cheap). It has a 300 watt power supply. I installed XP Pro and everything works fine at my place. At my buddy's place, if he restarts, it goes through the boot process up to loading the OS then stops/freezes. But if he turns the power off, lets everything spin down, then turns the power back on, it boots fine. Every time. Bring it back here and I can't reproduce the problem. At first he had the thing plugged into an outlet that had no ground so I figured that was the problem. We found another outlet with a ground and tested it to make sure the ground was fine. No problems for about 2 days, then back to the same routine. Sometimes it'll spontaneously reboot, then hang at startup. Is this a bunk XP install? Or maybe a power supply issue? Any ideas?
