I actually liked The Myst myself, one of my favorite King newer ones, and was a favorite read back in the day.

Many people hated it, got me, the end is radical and completely different from the story in the collection.

As far as people stressed out in a situation, that is a good one.

There is another oddball one I'm trying to think of.

The original Poltergeist is always a good bet.

Agree, what (to me) is one of the scariest parts is when the mother comes back into the kitchen and finds all the chairs stacked on top of the table just seconds after leaving the room, link.

Kinda not like when a mother comes home and found out her child has broken a priests neck and thrown him out of a second story window

I guess she didn't really know that at the time...

Yea, "The Exorcist" was a really, really huge thing when it was released, some cinema's had an ambulance at the ready for anyone who passed out during the shocking film. Local priests would go the the cinema and beg people in line to go home and not see it. Theaters screening the movie came equipped with "Exorcist barf bags", many theaters in the UK refused to air it so fans organized and hired buses to be taken to a theater that was showing it. All this free publicity only jacked up the interest (and fear) about the movie.

Watch "sleepaway camp". It's absolutely not a good movie, but it still manages to be worth it. You can only understand what I'm talking about after you've seen it.

Favorite zombie movie is "28 days later".
Favorite vampire movie is "Stakeland". Even though that one is really a zombie movie masquerading as a vampire movie.

Anyone remember "Triangle" from a few years back? I feel like that one went by mostly unnoticed, but it left an impression on me. Really good mind bending horror there.

Recent movies I've liked are "It Follows", "The Babadook", and "Oculus". Of those I would suggest watching "It Follows" first. The premise is really interesting and probably reminds most people of nightmares they had as children where something is after you. It moves slowly, but it never stops...

All the series with umpteen sequels are never scary as adults, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street etc... just stupid when you watch them again.

The Ring is excellent and the sequel is pretty good, The Grudge, Prince of Darkness, The Shining and the two Halloween movies made by Rob Zombie are pretty good at giving a scare, the Halloween remakes are really brutal though.

I'm just the opposite. I still think the original Halloween is scary. I thought The Ring was almost a comedy. That movie was so stupid, it made me realize the scary movie is dead for the most part. I have never made it through The Grudge. Not sure what it is about those movies. They are just a bunch of jump scares, not much else. I think it must be a generational thing. I must be too old to appreciate the newer scary movies.

I'll have to check out the Halloween remakes.

Some good picks here. Lovecraft is good to read tonight too. That dude was way scarier than King or Barker could hope to be.

I prefer vid games on Halloween myself. I am getting to be a home body now that I am older, so no parties. I am thinking a little Doom 3, since it has been since the Fall it came out since I played. So the zombie closets should be fun for a bit. Definitely some Prey, really under rated game imo. One of the first? was for me anyways, that did the Yo we heard you like video games thing, with video games inside the video game.

Some Red Dead nightmare, and finish it off with Arkham Knight, which I just picked up with DLC for $15 last night, and evidently takes place on Halloween. Last time it was x-mas.

Check out Threads. Definitely the best horror movie I've ever seen. Warning: also very depressing and brutal.

Indeed! I saw it when it first came out on TV while the Cold War was still raging. Man, it gave me the chills for a couple of weeks based on "what if...". Given that a lot has changed since then, and it is dated, not quire as scary.
