Sports gamers -- league interests?

I love sports of all kinds. Because I love sports, I play a lot of sports games. Really, that was the primary reason I bought my Xbox (and asked for a PS3) in the first place. I play games in all of the major pro leagues (NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB) plus the occasional game of FIFA, NCAA football, and perhaps my favorite sports game of all time, College Hoops. Heck, I even have Beijing 2008 so my brothers and I can mash buttons and kill controllers.

We had a Madden AT league this year and we almost made it through a complete season before people lost interest. I tried to start NBA 2K10 and MLB 10: The Show leagues but had less success.

I'm wondering how many people on here consider themselves sports gamers. I'm really hoping that down the road, we can have AT leagues in the four major leagues (NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB). If you're interested in being part of this "AT Sports Exchange," if you will, reply back and state what sports games you typically play and teams you follow, what platform, and your interest level in future online leagues. I guess I'll start:

1. Football (Madden or NCAA). Teams: Indy Colts and Purdue Boilermakers
2. NHL (primarily EA's NHL series for now). Team: San Jose Sharks
3. NBA (primarily 2K's NBA games). Team: Undecided; probably Pacers or Cavs if in a league
4. MLB (I have MLB 10:The Show for PS3 but would not be averse to getting MLB 2K10 for the Xbox either). Teams: I have 3 teams I generally have liked through the years -- the Yankees, Dodgers, and Cubs.

Most of my existing games are on my Xbox, though The Show is obviously on PS3. In the future, I'll probably choose the platform for a specific game based on what kinds of leagues I can join.

Football (Madden and NCAA): Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Fresno State Bulldogs
NBA (2K Series): Los Angeles Lakers

Platforms: 360

Interest: Definitely interested in an online league for football, but not so much for basketball unless it's a shortened season. I doubt I'll stick around for an 82-game season.

For the leagues with long seasons, we would definitely shorten the length into the 20 game/season area.

I'm really hoping that we can get a core group of dedicated players involved so we can have some successful leagues. The AT Madden 2010 league died out around week 15 but for the most part, there were probably only 4 or 5 of us who played consistently throughout the season. So I am hoping that anyone who joins would be dedicated to playing their games and if they can't, be diligent in communicating that they can't make their games in advance.

The only sports games I buy are MLB games.

I picked up MLB2k10 for the 360, I'd be interested in a 20 game season, that sounds like it could be fun.

If we can drum up enough interest on AT and get at least 10 players or so, I would probably buy it for the 360 to join. I currently have MLB 10:The Show and love it, and I downloaded the MLB 2K10 demo on the 360 and it seemed pretty fun as well. At least on The Show, you can adjust the online league season lengths to as low as 14 games. I assume MLB 2K10 is similar though I think 14 is probably too low. For MLB, you'd probably want between 20 and 30 games I would imagine.

Yea you'd probably want to go through your starting rotation at least 2-3 times. Ill keep an eye on this thread to see whbere it goes.

Great responses so far. Here's hoping we get a few dozen more players and can form some leagues. Keep them coming.

If you guys get this (MLB 2K10) off the ground, I'd be up for buying the game for 360. A season sounds fun.

So, what do you guys think is the minimum number of players for a good league? Each league has at least 30 teams, so do you think 10 as a minimum number is good?

I just bought MLB2k8 for $5. If it grabs me enough to merit getting the latest/greatest, I'll join in.

Madden 11, I am in.

I'd also like a hockey game, I think I will buy NHL 09 to see if I'll jump into that franchise, too.

NHL 09 is quite fun. I've heard NHL 10 is quite good, but I don't feel I've got enough play out of NHL 09 yet to justify it. Maybe I'll wait and go for NHL 11 if it gets good reviews.

I was in the Madden League, for a bit. Unfortunately, something like 4 of my first 5 games were against the CPU, so it wasn't much fun for me :\. I normally get Madden, NBA, and MLB games.

Ideally, if we do a Madden 11 league, we'll get dedicated players who will play most of their games and if they can't make it, notify their opponent well in advance. THAT was my biggest problem -- you'd have people who couldn't make their games, and that is fine. But many of them would not notify their opponents or the commissioner and would ignore requests or inquiries. I know this happened to you a few times, Onita.

IIRC, we started out with 23 of the 32 franchises claimed at the start of the league, but I think that 7 or 8 of those people never actually played a single game and there were 5 or 6 others who played the first couple of weeks and then disappeared. At the end, I think there were 6 teams (my Colts, Oznerol's Jets, Panthers, 49ers, Titans, and maybe Giants) who were playing consistently (I apologize if I left any out). I understand people get busy, but hopefully we can fill the league with people who will play most of their games.

EDIT: I guess I should go ahead and formally claim the Colts for any Madden 11 league.

OK, so if we have a MLB 2K10 league (which seems to have the highest interest at this point), we have 4 or 5 people who seem interested. I think we need at least 10 to make it a go, and those 10 would need to be pretty dedicated if I am going to go out and buy the game .

Also, if there are any other PS3ers besides anxi and I, chime in and we can think about an MLB 10: The Show league. As far as my MLB team goes, I can't decide between the Yankees, Cubs, and Dodgers. Maybe we should just make the Yankees off-limits to anyone unless we fill the whole league? In that case, I think I'll take the Cubs. There is no way I am going to win the World Series, so the Cubs are a perfect fit for me.

Anyone want to consider a spring/summer Madden 10 league for the 360?
