I was just wondering why not a Sports section in Social? We've got the NBA and NHL playoffs going on now, Cup Races in NASCAR, about a million soccer games being played, the NFL lockout, Baseball season in full swing, Golf and tennis every weekend. Boxing and MMA. Just a suggestion. Thanks.

because its not needed

we don't need anymore forums

You can post all the sports threads you want in OT

If you want a forum dedicated to sports...there are plenty out there

There are plenty of dedicated political and relationship forums out there too and yet we have those sub forums.

Anyway it was just a suggestion as it appears others want it too.

In fact, it would make sense to just move all the sport threats to health and fitness since they are loosely related and renaming it Sports and Fitness.

I don't understand the need for subforums for non-technical stuff, excluding P&N and L&R to keep the loons and perverts separated. Hell, I wouldn't mind L&R back in OT, some of the YAGT threads were quite lulzy.

There could be ones added if there was a true NEED for them. However, most things are covered fairly well. Unless their presence alone generated such an immense amount of traffic that warranted another sub-forum, it ain't gonna happen.
I think this says it all. We're not absolutely opposed to new sub-forums, but there needs to be a good reason to have them. Adding sub-forums left and right previously didn't work out so well for us.

At most you add a single thread per game of the playoffs, that is hardly enough to warrant a whole new forum for something that happens a couple times a year.

That's why I revised it a little and thought of moving sports out of the OT and into fitness. No new sub needed just spread the traffic around a little. At one point today the TO had over 1500 people in it and fitness had 50. Anyway it was just a suggestion.

We have a sub-forum right now that does not appear that is is being used at all, the 2010 black Friday forum. Could we take over that forum (even un-officially) and turn it into the sports forum? Could we just start posting sports related threads in that forum? That would solve the moderator issues of not needing another sub-forum, and we would have a sports only posting place...

Even that would be good as well as moving them to exercise and health. The resistance for this is just funny to me. How long would either take really to pull off? Oh well, we all know it ain't going to happen so.......

Its not necessary.
The purpose of separating the Social forums was not for clever organization. It was to reduce arguments and bitch fests. Politics was separated so the angry armchair politicians could have their flame wars and be away from the intelligent conversations of Off Topic.

Having said that, I have no idea why we have a car, relationship, and health forum.

Their were a couple NBA draft day trades last night. If a thread was started in off topic you'd get the typical yawn responses or something along those lines. It's really not enough of a big deal to start a thread over in off topic but would be perfect for a sports sub forum where sports geek could discuss the merits of the Mavs trading the number 26 pick for Rudy Fernandez.

I suggest an entertainment sub
Movies, TV, book, music, sports etc etc.

In theory a place where people could have long in depth conversations about sporting events or albums without them being lost in OT.

Not sure if there would be enough traffic. But I think it is a good idea.
I think it might be worth a try. Instead of one giant NFL thread we could have a thread for every team or even for certain games etc etc.

The problem with OT is there is so much traffic that smaller topics get lost very fast.
The bottom thread on page 1 (default settings) had its last post a little over and hour ago. Anything created over an hour ago is pretty much done since so few people seem to go digging.

Why not kill the garage and health and fitness and replace them with 'entertainment'
