Spree of deadbeat eBay buyers...

I now have three items that have sold in the past week that I have not received any payment for, even after sending multiple (polite) messages to the buyers. Two of the items I had to open cases with ebay, and the third isn't looking good. It's not a small amount of money either, at this point I'm owed over $400 total for all three auctions.

I'm starting to see why sellers have given the middle finger to eBay. I have to jump through hoops as a seller and still be at risk for getting shafted by a bitter buyer. Anyone else had this much bad luck with eBay as a seller?

I've had a number of items on Ebay for weeks with no sales, with little views and watches. When I started Ebaying in March, I had no problem selling anything. Now it's just completely dead and I'm sitting on unsold inventory.

Aren't you supposed to collect the money first? Via Paypal? Then you ship the product.

Indeed. I've not shipped the items, but it's still annoying that I'm having to go through the hassle of opening a case for non-payers. I'm stuck waiting for the case to close before I can relist them.

I'm kind of surprised that ebay is even still a thing in the USA. The pricing is generally not good on things (that I look for), and I have very much assumed that most buyers are third-world or in areas that have crazy shipping fees and/or no real stock of quality products.

Well one of them finally paid. They had until tomorrow at 10AM before the unpaid case would close and mark their account. Now I just hope the guy doesn't try claiming the GFX card doesn't work so he can return it and leave a bad mark on my record in retaliation.

I'm looking at a bum seller at the moment, been 8 days and not a peep from them. Sent one more courtesy message before I'm filing for a refund.

That sucks. In situations like that, it's good eBay will protect the buyer. I just wish eBay would have a better system to protect sellers equally as well, considering that's where their revenue comes from.

I love buying things OFF of eBay.

It takes a lot for me to work up the courage to sell things on there though. You just hope to dodge the bad buyer bullet every time.

Moving forward, this is likely what I'll do.

Don't rule out that it's other sellers that is doing that to you. Just like when seller have shill accounts to drive up bids on their own items, a similar practice is employed for "Buy It Now" listing by removing unwanted competition for a limited time until their own product sells at a desired price.

You're the 2nd person to mention that to me. I don't think this was the case though for the first two items, just lazy buyers.

Now, the account that won my RX 480 is very suspect. I really should have just put that in FS/FT section when I discovered I couldn't return it. Would have made someone's day, but I got greedy and decided to see what it could fetch on fleabay.

A couple years ago until recently I bought from Ebay twice a month or more. I haven't logged in for about 6 months I think due to Amazon Prime. I wonder how easy it is for a seller to switch?

Edit - NM you can't sell your old stuff on Amazon.

Actually, you can. The cost structure is a little bit more complex, depending on if you ship your items to Amazon's warehouse for them to handle shipping and returns.

I've been lucky I guess. Been a member of eBay since 2003. I haven't sold GPUs or high end items in a while though. I did have a guy try to rip me of selling a Track IR. He claimed after two weeks that it was broken. I sent message after message and it was like he fell off the planet. So thankfully the case was closed.
