I took this gun to the range this morning and I have to say that I’ve never fired a better 1911. This thing is tight, smooth and accurate. I put about 200 rounds through it and it didn’t have any trouble feeding at all. I did notice a few times the slide failed to lock open after firing the last round but I think this is due to the gun being new and the recoil spring being so tight. I’ll see how it does after putting a few hundred more rounds through it. Accuracy is excellent, far better than I’m capable of anyway but I was easily putting rounds into a tight 2” group at 15 yards.
The checkering is sharp on the front strap and I was worried that it would be too sharp but it didn’t bother me at all. The gun is very comfortable to shoot and it points naturally. Being a full-size 1911, recoil is very manageable and the gun is easy to shoot. The extended mag well makes swapping magazines quick and easy. I brought one of the stock magazines, which are 8 round mags, and 2 Wilson 8 round mags. Both fed everything reliably with no failures at all. Like is said, the only problem was the occasional failure of the slide to lock open after the last round. I thought it might have been the Wilson mags but it happened with the stock mag too.
My only complaint is breaking the gun down after for cleaning. Everything is very tight on this gun and you need a couple tools to disassemble the gun and put it back together but I think this is the price you pay for a gun like this. Speaking of which, I paid 1,399 for this gun which I think is a bargain for what you get. I expect many years of trouble free and enjoyable shooting. It is everything I wanted out of a 1911 and then some.
I brought my SIG P220 for comparison but only put a few mags through it. It doesn’t even compare quite frankly. The SA is much more accurate and so nice to shoot. I will say that I’ve never had any trouble with the SIG though. It’s a great gun but it doesn’t speak to me like the 1911 does.
