SprinT DSL *without* SOFTWARE SUPPORT

I connected my comp via a router and was online, using Windows XP.

I didn't even install the software, and I'm on!

So what's the deal? Is this going to last?

I've done it for two comps, becuz I think Win XP's DHCP detects the settings and adjusts.

In the Internet setup wizard, there's an option that sez you can setup you Internet where your connection is always enabled and doesn't require you to logon with a name or password.

Now, it's not letting me do it anymore, need the stupid software, what's the deal?

So it was working and then you tried to use Internet setup wizard and now it doesn't work?

All new Sprint DSL customers will be using DHCP. To verify that you have a DHCP modem, check the model number on the sticker on the underside of the modem. If it's 645M-A1, it's DHCP, if it's 645ME-A1 it's PPPoE. The DHCP modem doesn't require you to install the cd or any software however the PPPoE modem requires an earthlink username/password for authentication which is setup when you run the cd for the first time.

Both modems route the connection which means if you hook up a 3rd party router to the modem you will be going through 2 NAT servers. My advice would be to bridge the modem that way your router will be assigned the internet address and won't cause any problems if you do any port forwarding.

To bridge the modem use the directions here, but also go into menu 3.2 and set the DHCP server to "none".

Once you do that, just leave the router set for DHCP and it should pull the internet address through the bridged modem. If it doesn't work you may have to wait for the DHCP lease to clear on the Redback DSL server which can take up to an hour. If your connection type is PPPoE, just enable that in the router and supply your username/password and you should connect immediately.

For the guy who said how I posted online, I was at a library. Or could have used dial up, but the speeds for free service are a pain. So there you have it.

Anyway, thanks to those who've contributed. I called Sprint High-Speed ISP tech support. They said it was a software issue on their part. So when they fixed it, everything was up and running.
Tech support said that the CD that came with my package is required for an e-mail account which I don't care about right now, or to verify for an e-mail account without the CD, I had to get my dad to do it.

But I didn't know that things would have been otherwise with the two comps either. I've tried it once before the DSL started not working, and I got the connection working well once with a cross-over LAN because I have two LAN cards, Internet browsing on the second computer only worked half the time, even after a network setup wizard. From the advice I was given, from the guy before me (thanks everyone), I'm not using a third party routers/modems or any hubs, just a cross-over. Any ideas on how to ensure that Internet works on the second comp all the time?
(ofcourse the host computer will be powered on along with the modem [DHCP too])
