Might be old news for some of you, but I just found out about it.

If you have had your current handset for over 18 months, you can get a $150 MIR off a new phone. I got a new 8200 for $100 (after rebate) today.

Check your plan here.

Its a good heads up.

I believe AT&T gives you an option for free phone every 12 months.

Eligibility Details

Our records indicate the PCS Phone associated with this PCS Phone Number is less than 18 months old

You qualify in October 2004.

Uhmm.. right. I've been with them since 1999. I even have the old bills to prove that I've had this number with them since November 1999. Oh well, I guess I will call them or something.

Nevermind, I am a dumba$$ and can't read.

AT&T does every 12 months. I am not sure if you need a 2 year plan or not. Also, ATT lets you test your phone for 30 days and you can exchange it at no cost (except the difference in the price of the phone if applicable) within the 30 days.

this deal only applies to hardware (ie new phone). It doesn't matter how long you've been with them. If you have changed your PHONE within the past 18 months, you don't qualify yet.

T-Mobile will do it every 12 months, but it's a phone that's standard for them at the time, and they make you renew your contract for a year. I did it a few months ago, and got the crappy Nokia 3595, it was just after color phone were getting big, but no camera's yet. Sucks for me, because now I know this guy in chinatown who sells phones for 20 bucks with $100-$150 mail in rebates. Ah well, going to Hong Kong in August.. gonna bring back some awesome phone that won't be out here for months, lol.

No, I've been a SPCS customer for about two years now, and this Janurary switched my Sanyo 4900 to a Toshiba 2032. It says that I qualify.

This crap has been around for a while. It's just another customer retention scheme. I got screwed and had my contract extended for one more year without my knowledge. The reason for 18 months is that a big chunk of people have 2yr contract and they wanna hit them before they opt out. You can do the same on a one year contract. If you like sprint and wanna stick to them, try cancelling your service (most of the time you will start getting calls when yr contract is nearing end or is over) they forward u to customer retention where they'll throw in some kool deals. You can normally ask for a new phone and a better plan. Dunno what is out there but I got $30/300 anytime minutes and unlimited night weekends start from 8. In addition I get a 20% corporate discount so its sweet.

I would suggest not signing up for this deal but going via the customer retention route. You have a better shot of getting a good deal in.

* Be on a $34.99 or higher Sprint PCS Service Plan
* Sign a new one- or two-year Sprint PCS Advantage Agreement
* Sign up for Sprint PCS VisionSM if purchasing a Vision-capable phone

Doh, doesn't apply to my cheapy $30 + 5% off plan.

I get Internet access on my QCP 6035 for $5 a month. There's no way I'm paying $15 a month for Vision just to get a "discount" on a new phone.

Uh, not so much 'cuz you have to Renew a one or two year Sprint PCS Advantage Agreement in order to get a new phone.

A much better alternative, IMHO, is to simply buy a new phone off of eGay and then activate it to use with your account. You get phones for a good price and, more importantly, you do not have to renew your contract.

I heard that anytime you switch hardware, your contract is automatically renewed. If not that, then your 18 months are automatically reset so that even if you buy the phone yourself, you still are not entitled to a rebate for another 18 months after that.

Yah i dont qualify as I'm on a cheap $29.99 /300 anytime + $10 vision. Would cost me $50/mo to get the same plan now in order to qualify. I'm not paying more monthly to get $150 off a phone.

Vision is very different from the old WW. Besides, $5 it still detracts from your airtime. I'd much rather pay $10 or $15 for Vision seeing how superior it is.

Good luck getting the newest phones any cheaper then in-store.

Complete BS. There is no charge or contract renewal for an ESN swap.

Gluck, you got a standard retention deal, a pretty crappy one at that.

goblue420, I have not heard about that and I highly doubt it exists. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to get any sort of discount towards a handset with the advent of these upgrade rebates. There is no precedent now for retention to provide discounts.

Man, the is a lot of mis-information in this thread. Yes, there are glitches in the system that don't always reset the 18 month counter if you've swapped ESNs. Its happened to me as well.

Final bit of info for this post: If you haven't had the handset 18 months but have had it at least 12 you quality for half of the rebate amount. And, if you sign a 1 year contract instead of a 2 year contract the rebate amount is also half. I'm going to doublecheck this last bit of info to make sure I've got it right.

I just upgraded yesterday from my Samsung N400 to the Sanyo 8200 in midnight blue. I've been with SPCS for only 18 months and I am satisfied with their service so far. I had little to no probs with my N400 as I was on the cheap $29.99/300 anytime Free & Clear plan. Dropped calls weren't a worry, because I'd be credited with a quick call to Claire. I upgraded my basic plan to the Free & Clear America (free roaming) because roaming charges kick you in the butt!! I also added the Ready Link and Vision Pictures pack so I can utilize the features of my new 8200. I love it so far

oh and to clarify NutBucket, if you sign up for 1-year agreement, the rebate is $100 (instead of $150 if you renew for 2-years).

Convieniently my idiot brother lost his cell phone yesterday and it's on what used to be my SprintPCS plan. Of course, to upgrade you have to extend the contract. *sigh*
