New Sprint PCS promotion started Nov 6.

$34.99/1500min Long distance included.

Plus $200 saving for ordering 2 phone online.

I wish someone posted it a few days ago before my friend's new phone new service 14-day grace period expire to avoid the $150 cancellation fee.

Now it sucks. My friend can't cancel his phone service ($29.99/500 LD min only) that he signed up 3 weeks ago with 1 year agreement to take advantage of this new promotion with me.

It's damn hot for those who just signed up for Sprint a week before this new promotion starts (nov 6).

Cancel your old plan NOW and sign up as new cust to get it.

Update:
Thanks for others who post the details. Details about the deals are also explicitly posted on www.sprintpcs.com web page.

Call Sprint and got my friend's service plan changed to $35/1500min *effective the beginning of next billing cycle*.

Now if anyone who could continue posting a hot deal on PCS phone would greatly apprecite. I know dealing with Sprint corporate sales rep can get $90 off the phone at MSRP with one-year agreement and no activation fee, but they got the charge the sales tax that could wipe out $15 saving.

For existing customer, Sprint cust serv rep has the ability to sign you up for the new plan, not limited to new cust. if you don't get one that is helpful, call again and get another one, just like you called a zillion times to Staples for price match a $260 Palm IIIC!

Good luck with getting a signal with Sprint PCS in the Los Angeles area. I returned my Sprint PCS phone and have been on the TRUE "Clear and Free" plan since i dropped them within the grace period. There customer service is non-existant, if u are able to get someone they r a moron! I say more power to those who get suckered into this service. I hear that Sprint is great in places like Texas or in other states. But as for LA... i would not waste my time.

If you cancel your service with sprint within the 2 week grace period they still charge u for the month for normal accounts. If u sign up for a commitment... then u will pay cancelation charges...

My advice is to stay "Clear and Free" of this service, What good is it to have the most minutes on a plan if you are only able to have signal to get only 20 minutes worth of talk time signal a MONTH? Every call i made on my StarTac TimePort was a dropped call and my longest was call was only 5 minutes before i got a signal fade.

Be fore warned people of Los Angeles..... = )

I just called about the promotion, and learned that the 1500 minute plan is really 250 anytime / 1250 night & weekend. I didn't ask about the 2000 or 3000 minute plan.

Just thought I'd let you know how much I dislike Sprint PCS. I've had it for almost 2 years now and it's just as bad as ever. Their prices are cheap but keep in mind that you get what you pay for:

-Dropped calls all the time.
-Terrible reception.
-Often people calling you will get a "this number is not available" message even though you have voicemail and you are not on the phone.
-Amateur customer service.

UGH! I get frustrated just thinking about it.

Didn't MCI merge with Sprint or something a little while back? fark that, I'll NEVER have anything to do with MCI, and now sprint. They are the worst CSR's in existence.

Well to sum it up is that service can be VERY spotty and vary a lot region-to-region. Even in Austin, Texas where I live the service can be pretty bad. I have a feeling Sprint gets away with their cheap rates by overselling their cell capacity. Even though 1500 minutes is tempting, the 1 year ball-and-chain is not worth it.

Thanks for the heads up on this deal.. I'm currently paying $75 for 1000 anytime mins (LD included) and after taking a look at my last couple bills, I can probably survive with 250/1250 mins instead... and $35 sounds better than $75. It's cool because on those long crappy drives I can zone out and talk to somebody rather than pay attention to the road...

hahahah

Regardless - this is a good deal. The contract part kind of sucks - that's another thing I like about my current setup... STILL, will swing by the sprint store and take a look. Since it'll effectively pay for itself after 6 months...

there's a reason why sprint pcs has the best price plans out there. its because they have the worse coverage. its great that your paying ten cents for a gazillion minutes, but how useful is it if you cant even get a signal?

in the los angeles and san diego area, sprint coverage is simply horrendous. they kept saying the coverage issue will be fixed as they are adding more cell sites and cell towers everyday, but zoom to 3 years later to the year 2000 and its still the same sh*tty coverage as it was back then.

there's no point to purchase sprint if in LA or SD. dropped calls, no signal, bad csr, very limited coverage area (unable to get calls in most buildings, malls, even residential homes).

I don't know about other cell companies but I hate it how these new deals are for new customers only. Right now my plan is month to month and I don't mind signing the contract but they won't let me keep my old number. I have to agree that Sprint signal is terrible in many parts of california and their customer service dept are the scum of the earth...to put it nicely. I think the only nice thing I can say about them is that they are nationwide in most major cities.

Does anyone have anything good to say about verizon? Their plans seem to be ok and I hear their coverage is pretty good too.

I stand corrected, I never saw the conclusion of the proposed merger.

<< Clinton, Miss., July 13, 2000 - WorldCom today announced the termination of its merger agreement with Sprint, following action by the boards of directors of both companies. The companies rejected conditions demanded by the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) that would have eliminated the customer benefits and financial synergies that supported the proposed merger >>

re: Coverage - my experience with sprint has varied. When I was in atlanta coverage was iffy, some areas were fantastic, others were awful. As a whole it was okay...

Here in Ft. Lauderdale, my coverage is "Good" everywhere and thankfully it is very good both in my apartment and at my office. There is one weak spot on my drive home for about 1/8th mile, and if I walk around my (pretty big 4 story concrete) apartment building, there will occasionally be dead areas around it as well. ?? Apparently digital cell signals don't deal with solid objects well. But overall I'd say I am happy with Sprint, but your coverage will vary greatly from provider to provider in different areas, best bet is to get a friend to loan you their phone for a day and try it out where you'll want to use it the most.

coverage is pretty good in the bay area... i'm in the LA part of the year and Bay area in the summer so sprint is good for my needs cuz of the free LD

EDIT: this rocks! i switched over to the $35 for 250 anytime and 1250 night and weekend. SWEET! I was scared they wouldn't let me but it isn't restricted to new customers. Free LD too. yay. i started out saying that one of my calls were dropped, which they credited me for, and then i asked to switch.

Does anyone in the metro Washington DC area have Sprint PCS? How's the quality? Is Sprint better or worse than AT&T?

Thanks!

saying "sprint pcs is good in the bay area" is WAYYY to general...the bay area is a HUGE area and service varies greatly mile-to-mile...

in downtown San Francisco forget about using the phone in a building...daly city/ south san francisco also poor, especially near skyline, you will not get a signal many times...these are the areas ive used mine extensively...

at&t (formerly cellular one) has way better coverage here

I work for Sprint PCS in CA and while the LA area has its share of challenges, it is a lot more expanded since the launch back in '97. While I do feel bad for those that may have received customer service that was less than stellar, I can say without any doubt that shortsidedness of some of the customer care reps should not be representative of the company as a whole. Coverage has been a major knock against our company from day one since we were the "new kid" on the block. Growing pains were sure to happen, which they have. 400 new sites are in the process of being implemented as we speak with three quarters of them almost in place. Malibu has opened as well as areas in Los Angeles, Glendale and Pasadena. Pricing has always been one of our strong points. All the new plans that are available starting from 11/9 are selectable through the holidays. Just to clear up a little confusion from previous posts, the grace period for cancelling service WITHOUT paying any disconnect fees is 14 days with only fee charged consisting of the initial activation fee of $29.99. You can still change your plan whenever you wish without resetting the 12-month agreement. Sprint is just looking for the consumer to keep the account active for that length of time. While there is no such thing as the perfect wireless service, no matter who says anything different, I feel that the broad use of our service in the LA area as well as the nation more than competes with the other big guns in this industry. From a technological standpoint, CDMA digital is a more robust technology for which to grow on i.e. web content, web surfing, high speed data transfer and, most of the time, clear reception. There's a lot coming down the pike. Just my 2 cents.

Hey bones,
tell us about this web surfing, can I check e-bay item prices from
the road by typing in the search box? Can I read anandtech from the phone , or is it like the Palm VII that only allowed me certain web clipings from pre determined web sites?

Which is the best websurfing phone to get for under $150,
I've been waiting for the end of year specials to start (always around the holidays) so I can get rid of my voice stream ($129 for 1500 minutes) phone. Voicestream has no coverage in vero beach and has many dead spots (aerial bought out)all over the place.

I live near West Palm Beach (yes I punched my voting card correctly, BTW many of those complaining went to the polls in busses. Usually with a leader who told them to punch the second hole down, a big mistake, kind of like the lemmings following each other to death by drowning in the sea.) and switched from AT&T to Sprint PCS almost two years ago. Sprint has great coverage along the East Coast of Florida and up the turnpike and I-75. I go out West in the summertime and the coverage is basically non-existant. I have to switch to analog to make a call and then have a whopping cell phone bill when I get home. But since almost all my use is here in Florida, their coverage here is as good as anyone's. 500 mins. for 49.00 and free long distance anywhere in US.

huum.. can anyone answer me this?

I have a Sprint Contract with special Web usage right off my normal minutes. If I went with this promo would Sprint be able to use the Web special with this also? If so it will just be a minutes upgrade. If not then I will be loosing my web special and it wouldn't be worth it. I have 300/300 with Web minutes as normal minutes. $39.99.
