<< phatstuff:
Actually Cingular is not Cell-One. Cingular is PacBell and a bunch of other companies. ATT is Cell-One and they have great service.
>>

Nooo. AT&T is most definitely NOT Cellular One. Until about three months ago I worked for AT&T Wireless, so I'm sure of this.

Cellular One is a conglomeration of a bunch of smaller cell phone companies that do business as CellOne. The largest carrier in the bunch is Western Wireless, based in Seattle.

This is the plan i have. I switched to it 6months ago on their last big promo and for me its better than the current offerings.

$50 - 500 Anytime
$10 - 1200 Nights/Weekends
Free Long Distance
$10 - Add a phone (I share the plan with my GF)

Total monthly is about $70 and the way i got the prices is through signing for a one year contract (which i wish i didnt do. I doubt id resign anything with sprint. Cingular "looks" like the way to go because of the SMS capabilities, better phones and free unlimited mobile to mobile calls. As for the "dont get cingular" people, i would rather see a current customer say that than somoene bitter against cellone. I heard the mergers improved the company a bit but id really like to hear an unbiased review of them.)

The current offerings from sprint charges you $10/mo if you dont want to be on a contract (used to be free) and $20 for add a phone.

The deal at coolcelldeals looks pretty good.
Motorola ST7867W Dual mode phone for $29.99.
1200 minutes, free long distance.
Free activation. Free shipping.
and the normal free stuff like caller ID, voicemail, etc.

Bad thing is 2 year contract, but only $50 to cancel after 1st year, which is much better than what ATT will gouge me for. Based on the reviews at epinions for this phone, and talking to Sprint users in the Southeast, makes this a safe bet even with a 2 year contract. The Startac's and Nokia batteries and accesories are dirt cheap.

Looks like a good time to dump my ATT crap, and pay the $60 early termination fee, to go back to a true digital cell company, instead of ATT's static, hiss, and dropped calls. 6 months with ATT was 6 months too long..

kinda OT: buying a phone without service is too expensive, do u think if i call up ATT they'd give me some kinda deal? I just want to upgrade my phone, my current one is almost 1.5 years old and gets very poor reception and weights a ton.

Or i have a option of terminating my service, cause my contract has already expired. But i'm kinda leary because right now i get free nights and weekends and I don't know if anyone still offers that.

BTW is it just me or http://www.coolcelldeals.com dosen't work

I do still get the first incoming minute free. I did switch plans, but the plan I switched to included that as well. CellOne is confirmed to be a bunch of cell companies working together. It also included Southwestern Bell wireless. Good luck.

Thanks - signed up, but my rep. says that since I already signed up with Sprint for a different $35 plan for 1200 mins beginning in june, the new plan would not take effect till next month - anyone have similar experience?

Also, what about text messages on your cell phone with Sprint? Do you have to subscibe to their wireless web plan and fork out another $10/mo. or is it included?

Yeah, Sprint recently implemented this thing, where if you change plans, they don't prorate the time you call to change it, but they change it on the next billing cycle. Kinda sucks, because this month I have a 150 plan, and i use 300 easy. doh.
on the Sprint website, I think you can get wireless web free for 6 months.

About the ATT call in to get a new phone thing, my friend just did that, and got that small nokia for $20, and got rid of his old Ericsson! but he tried doing that for his friend, but it didn't work. I think it's because he mentioned buy.com's special.

Just be sure to read ALL the fine print before you sign. Sprint's Night hours start at 8 PM, Verizon starts at 9. Made a big difference to me because of my calling patterns.

Logictype: I initially signed up for the 1000 mins n/w and 200 anytime minutes plan for $35. But I saw this thread and decided to signup for the 2150 mins n/w and 350 anytime mins for $40. However the new plan takes effect only next billing cycle (over 20 days left) - This kinda sucks!!!!:disgust: Good thing I haven't exceeded my plan limits yet

I originally had the 1500 minute $34.99 plan [250 peak 1250 off-peak]

I called up Sprint yesterday and had them upgrade my plan to the 2500 minute $39.99 plan [350 peak 2150 off-peak] and the guy said the plan would take effect starting the 15th of this month.

The one condition of upgrading this plan is that you must take out another one-year contract. I hesitated when Sprint told me this because I know my phone will be one outdated junker at the end of a year, but in the end, I thought hey, it's a decent phone, decent service, cheap plan, free long-distance.. why the hell not.

I have the same $35 plan (signed 1 year contract in Jan). The customer service guy (which only took 20ish minutes to get to) told me that getting the new $39.99 plan (350+2150+long distance) would NOT tack anymore time on my contract since I already had one.

i called and a sprintpcs rep that i talked with told me i can start with the new plan right away, however, i didnt since i still have a lot of minutes left. on top of that, i dont have to renew my 1 yr contract with them, so its just like i'm upgrading my existing contract with this plan. on top of that, i get to keep my 5000 additional minutes for the next 10 months too. this promotional 5000 minutes is from my previous contract.

also, sprint pcs is offering 5 dollar a month wireless web service with the first 3 months free, and cancel anytime. it used to be 10 dollars a month and no first 3 months free.

If SprintPCS would lower the offpeak time from 8 PM to at least 7 PM those bizillion offpeak minutes would be of more value. I know.... how about adding a couple of hundred day minutes & subtracting oh..... how about 1000 of those relatively worthless offpeak minutes that SprintPCS is so generously offering in their new package deals.

I'm in Dallas, TX and I always get drop calls. I have upgraded my plan in March of this year but they never did get the plan right until yesterday. I hope this is the last time I have to call them to fix my account. I have called in every month to have my plan corrected since March. They charged me $200 on my most recent bill cause according to the CS Rep. I spoke to yesterday, they did not setup my account correctly. I was suppose to get 400 anytime minutes and 1600 night/weekend minutes but somehow, the stupid CS Rep. whom I spoke to last time screwed up my account and took out the 1600 minutes. I would have disconnected my service but unfortunately I'm under the 1 year contract.

The most frustrating part is to have to wait for at least 20-40 minutes everytime I call in for customer service and have to deal with the inexperience CS Reps.

Most of my PCS friends in Dallas have similar experience I had. So..beware!! I know they offer attractive plans but what is the use if you can't carry on a conversation without having to hit that redial button!

If you like to read more about their horrible service, visit this site.

Gah, again my theory holds, call CSR's till you get what you want.
I had two CSR's tell me my contract would have to be extended for a year, the final one said "Nope it sure doesn't"(have to be extended) Soooo...If you get these BS reps who sneak shiznit in under your nose, dont put up w/ it, just forget about them and call back later. Its rather inconvenient, but I tell you when I call at midnight my wait times are NEVER more than 5 minutes.

Thanks for the post.

Existing Sprint PCS customers must renew their contract in order to be eligible for these rate plans.

That's taken from the legal text of the page. So basically, if you switch to this plan, they're SUPPOSED to start a new 1-year contract ... though some CSR's may not do it. Even if you get a CSR's word that it doesn't start a new contract, I'd be wary that the computer may not agree a few months down the road if you try to cancel. Just keep that in mind.

true that

it seems as though all these companies are trying to say, "oh, you get 10000 minutes!! 100 on peak and 99900 off peak! woo hoo!".. so watch out!

I just came back from Best Buy with a Motorola Talkabout T8167 ($150 + Tax) and 3 rebates: $30 BB gift card + $100 BB gift card + $30 Sprint Cash rebate.

Basically, I got a free phone to go with the 2500 minutes for $39.99 plan.
