Sprint actually did offer a Nokia 2100 series phone a few years back. I guess it didn't work out between the two companies.

Edit: I checked out eBay and there are Sprint PCS Nokia 5100 and 6100 series phones as well. Who knew?

"Youc an always change plans with Sprint" unless you've signed a one-year agreement, in which case you can always change plans, but they'll tack on an extra $10 a month for tyhe new plan, often without warning you that they'll do so... and then they'll refuse to waive that extra fee *or* switch you back to your original plan.

In short, they'll screw you six ways from Sunday, all while promising flexibility right up 'till the moment you've signed.

this is how it works:
the 100 off the 1100 (or any phone) works cuz u sign a 2 year contract. this isnt for everyone, but im going away to college, and parents are taking over my cell payments cuz im quiting my job, (my anti "mommy daddy fund" explanation) so that way i forced my parents to get me a phone for next 2 years

its not a scam, some peeps even do it all for you on egay. there is a nice 35 buck a month plan for 1800 n/w and 200 anytime...which is what i got.

just fill it out and once approved they will send you the phone within the week and a bill within the month. \

edit: yes everything will go thru sprint, but on sprints website, they only offer it for select phones, coolcell and egay offer more phones. i suggest you do it asap as sprint also has an offer on the site for extra 500 min and you could call and try to argue to get it.

Re: That AT&T one rate plan:

Really? No roaming fees? So no matter where I am, I won't ever
get hit with a surcharge or any other unexpected fee?

What's the best deal out there for THIS plan? Seems like that
would be better, by a longshot, if you travel much...

in terms of quality of signals and service, I'd say verizon is much better than voicestream. I know for a fact that cell phone makers that want contracts with Verizon have to pass their strict power output levels. So their phones are adjusted to give better quality connections. I dont know about Voicestream, but quality-wise you can't go wrong with verizon.

True, that sprint has better phones, I've been pretty dissatisfied with their customer service and Maryland coverage quality.

Good deal, for the $40 for 350 minuutes. I never go over 400, but always go over 200.

(if any of you are in college, there are deals through your school, that you can get under a 'business plan'. You get 15% off every month. So I actually get better than 40 for 350 minutes )

Sprint needs to get back with Nokia, they loose business because many people get certain service just beacuse the phones they offer are cool. Also the $34.99 fee to switch phones is insane. With GSM all you have to do is to move the sim card to a new phone and turn it on, all done in 30 seconds and no fee to pay.

I am testing a new service with cingular Nokia 8290 GSM phone and the phone is awesome but sprint sounds better at least with my Samsung 8500 in Knoxville TN.
So I have not decided which service to keep.

Dont forget $50 off $100 at amazon in cell phone department, if you have a first usa e-card visa you get additional 5% off.

You are absolutely correct. No roaming, no long distance, nothing unexpected. Only catch is that you have to live in AT&T service area. Check the AT&T Wireless Website for coverage in your area.

Sprint PCS is the way to go. I absolutely have fallen in love with it. I've tried another PCS carrier, as well as several analog carriers in the area. Nothing even comes close to Sprint PCS, for voice as well as the awesome Wireless Web services. I'll admit their coverage leaves some to be desired (here in Iowa the digital coverage is VERY spotty, even only a few miles outside of a "large" city) so I do find myself 'Analog Roaming' quite a bit. But when I'm in my local area, it's great. I haven't found anything better, anyway.

Sprint has done me wrong. I am in the DC Metro area, and frequently get dropped from calls. Plus, I can never get a hold of them for customer service. I don't have the time to wait 30 minutes every time I want to get an answer.

cingular services is horrible..... I can't get good signals... and at night, I will alwasy get network failure and all circuits are busy... what a POS. When my 1 yr contract is up with cingular... I will ditch them and switch back to Cellular One ( now call AT&T )

<< shoot. I just signed up for 1200 mins for $34.99 on Monday. Can I upgrade my service to this one just by paying $5 extra everymonth? anyone knows? >>

Yes you can. I upgraded from $30/300 minutes a month on a month to month basis to $35/250 anytime + 1250 w/n including long distance to anywhere in the US, Virgin Island and Puerto Rico. I had to agreed to a one year agreement.

Yeah, SprintPCS' refusal to use Nokia phones is really annoying (I too want to upgrade my Nokia 6185). I've complained to them about it multiple times and answers range from "we're working on it" to "thanks for telling us about this." The Nokia reps I've talked to have said Sprint has specifically refused to carry Nokia phones. They're the only service provider I can think of that does not carry phones made from the largest (and arguably best) cell phone manufacturer in the world. Stupid. . . .

And, yes, the rest of the world is so ahead of us on cell phones. Last summer in Europe, I loved how everyone had a cell phone and I could get in touch with everyone via SMS instantaneously for only 10 cents a minute. And I got a 3 oz Panasonic cell phone for $3! The US is way way behind on cell phones and I doubt we'll catch up at any point soon. . .. .

To those talking about the "first incoming minute". Sprint doesn't have any stupid rules like that! You get completely free incoming calls! And you get free nationwide longdistance from/to anywhere. No roaming or other limited calling area to place your call like other companies. Companies like Verizon and Cingular charge you for placing a call, if you are outside your "home" calling area. LAME, if you ask me!

One thing the "cellular" network needs, is a UNIVERSAL nationwide network, where any company can use any of the cellular towers and some genius needs to come up with a way to cover the whole country, with no dead spots. Hopefully phones in the future will work with satellites. That way, no dead spots. Full world-wide coverage!

MrCoyote, are you being serious or are you really that dumb? You obviously don't know what the hell you are talking about on pretty much everything you said. When people refer to "first incoming minute", they mean that it doesn't use any minutes. Yes, Sprint used to offer that several years back (I guess the only mobile phone you had back then was neon colored and dispensed candy).

The US is all screwed up when it comes to mobile phone standards. You got your GSM, CDMA, TDMA...that is why it will be a long time before different companies all use the same towers. By the way, we already have satellite phones that also work as regular mobile phones. Ever hear of Globalstar and Iridium?

KillaBee...In case you have not heard, Iridium went bankrupt over a year and a half ago. They are bringing them down one by one. By the way, since you are into satellites, have you ever heard of latency?

So you think you know it all...guess you were too busy doing last years Christmas shopping to read the newspaper last December. The Man (US gobament) is basically subsidizing the operation of Iridium so certain gov't employees can use it. Exhibit A

I know all about latency. That is why sat phones are only useful if you're in middle of the ocean or lost in the jungle. Globalstar phones (not Iridium) can switch over to CDMA or GSM when you're in an area with service. Globalstar phones

okay, you all have different stories to tell, but the policies/ plans available literally change daily. I have the Samsung 3500 and have been using Sprint PCS for over 1.5 years. I get the first incoming minute free and free nationwide long distance. I got a free car charger, leather carrying case, and a $30 gift card from Dillard's. I did switch plans during the first year and didn't have to pay any fee or extra monthly charge. I got more minutes for the same price. The coverage seems pretty good, I disabled the analog feature because they will charge me an extra .25 for each analog minute. I rarely get no coverage and that's usually in the boonies away from a major highway. I must say their customer service is the worst in the world. I have been flat out lied to numerous times and charged extra when it wasn't accurate. It is a very long and disheartening story, but the phone and coverage is the only reason I keep them. Good luck.

I also agree about Sprint's terrible customer service. I think it's mandatory to flunk out of high school if you want a Sprint CSR position. The quality of service also depends which call center you get. The really terrible ones are in the old confederate states...sorry to say. Kentucky and Alabama I think. I would imagine they are probably located in the most undesirable places to live (ie. next to the ghetto) because the CSRs always sound pissed off and unmotivated.

I've think there is also a call center in Denver. People there are much more pleasant to deal with. So my words of advice. First thing to do when you call is ask where the call center is located. If you hear Alabama or Kentucky then grab a bottle of whisky to numb the pain.

Well here in Irvine, and some parts of Southern California Sprint PCS just sucks. I personally don't have it but my friend does and she gets absolutely no reception. As far as best service available I'd have to go for Verizon... they offer tri-mode phones that operate in digital, analog, and PCS. However, their prices/plans can't match those of its competitors as you get what you pay for. I got a Samsung 850 model, which is the same thing as the Samsung 8500 for Spring, except its for Verizon. Great phone, great service.

Did I tell you I hate Nokia phones? They are good and all, but WAY too many ppl have them.

MrCoyote- I think you are confusing the Nextel unlimiting incoming promotion with Sprint PCS. I'm no fan of either but the unlimited Nextel Direct Connect walkie feature with unlimited is useful . BTW - A hot deal tip - Staples has a $ 100 rebate for wireless (AT&T,Sprint PCS, Nextel ) expiring 6-9-01
