I would actually prefer this over the Evo 3D, because I'm still not sold on the whole 3D thing. But Motorola... Motoblur? The Tegra2 + dual core + 1gb ram + qHD (960x540) makes it intriguing..

Not bad at all, looks pretty good. As for 3D phones... GIMMICK just like 3D movies. I'm hoping they freaking release the Within decently soon as I am more looking at a SGSII over a motorola.

Moto's latest iteration of Blur that is on the Droid X2 and Droid 3 is quite nice actually, far more polished and smooth than their older iterations

I'd take it over the 3D but would wait for the SG2 if you don't need a phone now.

This is the least exciting super-phone this summer.

Tegra= worst dual-core SOC (doesn't even have NEON support!)

Moto qHD 2011 = evil pentile

Moto anything = evil Moto blur

Even without my love for 3D I would MUCH rather have the Evo 3D- faster CPU, GPU, better screen, and a better shot at an unlocked bootloader...

I was hoping the Galaxy SII phone would be out for Sprint in July. Looks like I will have to wait until Sept.

a friend was wanting to switch to sprint, and was itching to get the evo3d, but i told her to wait for the photon and compare the 2. still feeling that 3d is just a gimmick (and no 3dtv either), she got the photon

I got the photon last week.LOve it so far. Way far better reception n battery life than evo.

My first android so not much experience to compare. But the phone is fast zips thro web sites at 3G.

4G drains the battery a bit faster.

Normally accessories hit the market before the phone does.
But for the photon, accessories are just beginning to trickle into the market.
Otterbox just released their 2 cases and zagg has come out with their shield.

Lots of happy sprint users after the bootloader was unlocked.

A few bumps here and there, which moto is supposed to resolve by an update by the end of the month,.

Most of the people who bash pentile have never used it and are nothing more than bandwagon people on a misinformed train. People who say it's a trick or gimmick and is just a poor technology without benefits have a lack of understanding of what the technology is and what it does.

RGBW pentile on the QHD displays(which is not the same as the RGB pentile on AMOLED) is extremely good for reading black text on a white background(a topic you will find uninformed nay sayers saying the opposite) and is more viewable in sunlight and brighter than any display technology to date by a significant margin, nothing comes close. The appearance of fingerprints and glare are extremely diminished on these displays, they hide them much better than any other display tech. One final benefit that I can think of off the top of my head is that at any given level of brightness, RGBW pentile displays use less battery than any other display tech on the market.

Yea - when I looked at the photon display I thought it was very good (better than the evo3d). A lot of folks claim they can see the pentile effect on the photon thread; but I have 20/20 vision and it didn't bother met at all). Only reason I haven't purchased the phone is I'm waiting to compare it to the sg2. The key component of the sg2 I need to check out are reception and speaker quality.

They person at sprint was very kind and let me take the Photon outdoors and I will confirm the display was very visible in bright light (the evo3d completely washes out).

I guess I'm just repeating dguy; but to me it didn't matter if it was pentile or not; I just wanted it to be crisp; vibrant and visible outside; which it was.

I've compared the Droid X2/Atrix to the Droid X and they were very different.
The major difference? Pentile.

If Moto kept their S-LCD screens without the "pentile" part, they would still have one of the best screens on the market today IMO.
The people who keep saying Moto has the best screens/color reproduction available are still quoting that comparison on DisplayMate failing to realize that Moto has since changed how they do their screens after Droid X series phones.

I think DisplayMate needs to do an updated comparison of Droid X2/Atrix pentile to a Moto "non-pentile" Droid X, SAMOLED+, IPS, and Apple's Retina displays to settle this idea that pentile screens are superior once and for all.

I know plenty of people that upgraded from a Droid X to a Droid X2, only to return the phone because of the screen.
So yes, "pentile" qHD screens are currently a gimmick. Give me the screen found on the Droid X, attach qHD resolution to it without the "pentile" part.
I don't need my phone to look like a checkered board for sunlight visibility which is a minute point for me. I spend more time indoors than outdoors.
I wouldn't trade having a slight better visibility in sunlight for having a checkered board 24/7.

I would love to compare a Photon 4G to a Droid X2 to see if there's any improvement in how Moto does their pentile screens. Unfortunately, one phone is at a Sprint store, the other is at a Verizon store. And neither would let me walk out of the store with their phones to do a side by side comparison.

I went with my dad today to US Cellular, because he's never owned a smart phone and had no idea what to buy, and we looked at all they had to offer and I have to say I was impressed with the Electrify (rebadged Photon). I didn't sit with a jeweler's loop looking at the sub-pixels, but the screen had great contrast and color, and was even fantastic in sunlight. I guess I'm surprised at the crying and complaining going on, the display looked very nice.

Further, the phone itself was fast, had very little in the way of bloat apps, and it seems Blur has been watered down to the point that it's even tolerable. So, what's the gripe? The battery life is exceptional, the display looks great, it's fast in everything I tried, has first rate reception, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and the camera, though not as good as my iPhone, takes nice pics. Personally, I think it's a great Android phone.
