hey, intresting you compare the timeport to the a460, I just replaced my broken timeport with the a460 and the reception is identical. In my home i hardly get any reception and both phone are actingly exactly a like. I used to get dropped calls once in a while in my room very rarely and with the a460 i see no change. I agree with the guy who was saying to "not compare the bars" this is a very dumb way of comparing reception. doesn't tell you anything about which fone is better since they may use diffrent standards on testing reception.

Best phones to get are those made by Sanyo, the 6400, 5150 and 4900 are tops. The 4900 probably gets the best reception of any SprintPCS phone. Check out the wirelessadvisor.com forums and see the posts raving about the 4900. My dad just got one and he is the happiest with this phone out of any other phone he's had. Finally he can make and receive calls from the basement.

Hello, I just want to say that counting the "bars" tells you very little until you actually start talking on the phone and seeing how well it deals with a poor signal.

How do you compare a Samsung with 5 bars to an LG with 6, or even a the same brand phones, like a Nokia 33xx with 4 bars to a Nokia 63xx with 7? I mean, it's obvious that every different phone is calibrated differently.

I bought 2 Samsung A500 cell phones with CASH for another AT'er.

What's the best Sprint cell phone plan with free long distance, free roaming and unlimited internet? Can it be had for $49.99 or less per month?

Well, that's a surprise. I ordered the free battery for the A500 on the website last Thursday and it arrived today via Airborne Express. What's more, I was expecting a standard battery, but they sent an extended battery instead!

Just got back from COSTCO.

A460 - $115. It is *NOT* $79. It is only $79 after the $35 Sprint Phone Credit that they credit to your account IF YOU ARE A NEW SUBSCRIBER it seems.

I made sure with the sales rep at COSTCO. So there is no way that if you are an existing customer, to get that $35 credit. It says so on the back of the promotional flyer.

So I guess CC and BB's $99 (50 for phone, 50 for mandatory gift card with phone) is still the best...

Please, if anyone can prove me wrong, DO SO!! I'd love to get this phone for less than $100.

i only get "short mail" and "email" options on my a500. thanks !

yeah, and the extended battery is HUGE!! i thot it was going to be only slightly larger than the standard, but its a big chunk thicker.
and with the standard battery's life being crap, there's no choice but to go with it......sigh

i think shortmail and email is the only way to send text messages... u just send the message to the other person's phone# and that's it.

I have a question tho... was the text messaging service already included in your service or did you have to separately sign up for it (and pay $10 more or something)??? You can still send messages if you're not signed up for it but you can't receive any messages...

Messaging, as I understand it, is all included in the PCS Vision charge.

the problem with that service is that u can't send to ppl in your cell phone's phone book, which is pretty retarded if you ask me.
sprint needs to clean up their messaging system.

btw, does anyone know where to get cheap accessories for the a500?
lookin for stuff like leather case, car charger, and handsfree. see a couple on ebay for like 14 bucks shipped

Just thought I would tell you guys this bit of info.
This will only work if you're out of your one year contract with Sprint. (As far as I know, and still YMMV)
So, if you're like me and have been wanting a new cell phone for a while (not to mention a new plan) but don't like to shell out the $200 for a bright shiny new toy:
I'd really been looking at the T-mobile deal on Amazon. I called Sprint (888-211-4727) to enquire about cancellation. (If you get to the point where it asks you to state your business, say "Cancel Phone", it'll put you right through. ) Filled them in on all the details and they offered me $150 credit towards a new phone, one month free service and 750 anytime and unlimited nights and weekends for $40/month. (this doesn't include their Vision plan, I got it free for the 1st 3 months after that it's $10/month). I asked if I bought a phone seperately (from CostCo) if they would apply the credit to my bill. They said that's fine.
So I now have a new phone that's awesome (I got the A500 personally) and a great new rate and no bill for 4 months. I did of course have to agree to another one year contract.
