Still clinging on to that beloved EVO 4G for dear life? You're going to have to upgrade in the near future. Sprint has confirmed a recent Android Central leak revealing that it will shut down its WiMAX network on November 6th, 2015. If you haven't made the switch to LTE-based devices on your personal account, you'll get an official warning 180 days (i.e. about six months) before the older network goes offline for good. The date isn't completely surprising -- Sprint had previously hinted it would shutter the service next year -- but it now gives you something to mark on your calendar.

Good, Sprint doesn't need to bleed cash maintaining a network that fewer and fewer people will be using.

The comparisons I see of Sprint's 4G LTE to the other carriers makes me wonder if their LTE is worth it.

Oh, Sprint. Back in the late 90's, they were the original "uncarrier." No contracts, easy-to-understand plans, great value, and they even had Trenchcoat Guy as their smooth-but-straightforward spokesperson. But they kind of went a bit psychotic after Verizon Wireless formed, and they ain't been quite right since.

everything about their network sucks IMO. I've tried them many times and on 3G the phones keep popping from 3G towers at 5 bars to 1xRTT towers with 2 bars. Fix the PRL!!! or your tower topology...

So, does that mean I'll finally be getting fast service in my neighborhood?
Or no service?

I wonder what this means - if anything - for Freedompop. I thought Freedompop was using Sprint's network...

WiMax truly sucked. I never got good speeds and building penetration sucked.

technologically speaking wimax is nearly the same thing as LTE. sprint's clear's specific implementation sucked because it was at 2.5GHz (low building penetration) and didn't have enough backhaul (so couldn't take advantage of the airlink speeds wimax is capable of attaining).
