Sprint Wireless Web Modem - what to do if Sprint calls, and how to cancel service

Hey, I know this isn't a hot deal, but it relates to the free wireless web modem deal through Sprint. I searched for Sprint and couldn't find the old threads. Anyway, Sprint keeps calling and wants to set up a meeting to talk about the service. What are you guys telling them to get out of meeting with them and to get them to stop calling? I know it says on the box that whether or not we continue service, the modem is ours to keep, however, I remember people saying that Sprint is trying to get them to send them back if they don't continue service. Also, what are the people doing that sold their modems on eBay and no longer have them?

Thanks for the help, and sorry about the kinda OT post! Hopefully this will help clear things up with everyone that got the free modem out of this deal.

[edit] - thanks to jeoff for this info, read this if you want to cancel your service:
Call the "wireless web/modem tech department" at 1-888-298-0756 and tell them you need to "deactivate your demo aircard that you received from for a 60-day trial". They are going to want to transfer you to 1-877-789-3969, which is the business accounts department. That's fine, but ask them to stay on the line and help you out because you've had trouble getting this taken care of. My agent (Brett) stayed on the line the entire time.

You'll have to provide either the phone number for the modem or the Wireless Web account number you received in the original confirmation email from sprint. You'll also have to add two 0's in front of that account number or it won't pull up in the system.

Again, tell them it's a demo aircard and you need to deactivate it. If they ask for the password on the account, tell them it's a demo aircard and the password should be WWDEMO.

First, be short sweet and to the point with the guy/girl when they call. Tell them you simply aren't interested. After using it it was too slow for your needs, you're busy and you'll contact them if you ever change your mind. If they give you a line about returning the modem, quote what's on the box about it being free, they simply can't expect it back. Last but not least DO cancel your account through the representative (essentially they will be deactivating that #). If you don't deactivate it, and sell it, the next person will not be able to activate it with an account ( or so I'm told by a PCS CS rep). Besides, if you go to Sprint's website and enter that phone number and password WWMDEMO, you will see your account info. Best not to leave accounts open and it must be done by the rep that contacts you.

I have never been called that I know of. I don't answer my phone and if they did call they have not left a message. Just tell them you are not interested and ask them not to call anymore.

I never activated it ... Is there anything I need to do to deactivate the account so that I don't get some bill sent to me in the future?

Yea thats what I told the guy but when I called up it was a different story and now I have no idea how to deactiviate it. Does anyone have a clue how to deactivate my account?

If you don't want to call sprint, just wait for two months and let the trial account expire. The Sprint rep I spoke with told me the account will expire and automatically deactivate two months after the date of account creation (not activation.) BTW, he said they can't deactivate the account, so the only way to get it cancelled is either to contact the field rep who set it up for you or let the two months pass so the account expires and gets deactivated by their system.

I fleabayed mine for $135. Never heard from the buyer, and my Onebox number hasn't taken any calls from Sprint.

I checkem my account on sprint's website and it says I owe $1.44 in tax and 911 surcharges. What's up with that? Does this mean I gotta pay them? Anyone else have a similar experience?

I saw the taxes, too. I got a bill in the mail for 0.77 for the first month. Now, I'm planning on adding this modem to my personal sprintpcs account, so I went ahead and paid sprint $1.00 (the minimum allowed) by electronic check. There might be some kind of law that sprint can't control that says customers have to pay the tax. Or maybe not.

>>>$135? Lucky you, I only got $90 for mine.<<<

I guess that depends on one's perspective. Looking back on it, I guess I was lucky...but just a few days before mine went on EBAY, these things were selling there for $250'ish. When I saw they were dropping, I listed it with a Buy It Now option of $199 w/free shipping and was disappointed not to get anywhere near that amount. Still, $135.00 is a nice chunk of free money

we gotta cancel them? I sold mine on ebay without cancelling it, I was under the impression that after the free minutes are up you can't use it anymore...

I actually would have considered buying the thing, but when I tried using it for the 3rd time last night, it failed...but more than that, when I called up the tech support number they had NO IDEA what was going on, or how to fix it, and they sent me around in a phone maze. If they want a high-grade corporate service, it MUST have that level of CUSTOMER service...nevertheless, a Sprint rep has still yet to call me to ask me to sign up....
