If nothing else, you can change to the new $34.99 plan that gives you 300 anytime minutes and 3200 nights/weekends instead of 200 anytime and 3300 nights/weekends. Your 1 year commitment will start from the change date, though.

Called and got for $49.99
1000 anytime
3000 n/w 8pm
500 pcs to pcs
1 month free (basically a $50 credit)
I just called in and got this plan. Plus, my 10% government discount still applies. Great deal for $45 a month, plus 3 free months of Wireless Web.
Sure beats my $300 phone bill from last month! :Q

Thanks for the post, koala2002!

EDIT: If any of you are nervous about calling in because you think you might get shot down (I was a little), just give it a try. The CSR I got was super nice and the call was really quick.

What did you say? Did you just threaten to leave and stuff? Did they bring up the $150 cancellation fee? I've had my service for almost one month now...still think I can do it?

joshpokeball,

I really dont think you're going to be able to get a retention plan after only having the service for 1 month. The best they will be able to offer you is one of their new plans from their website with an extension on your contract for 1 year from the date you call. Retention plans are for people who are no longer under contract. This is Sprint's way of getting you to sign back up for a 1 year contract, and maybe partially a way of saying "thank-you" for being a customer of theirs for 1 year. For all intents and purposes you're free to try to get one of these retention plans, but personally I think its sortof rude to try to get in on one of these plans after being a customer for only a month. When this post was originally made some months ago, I was a customer for only 10 months or so, and I opted not to call and get some of the better plans people were getting (I believe they were something like 650 anytime, 2000 n/w @ 8pm for $35 + 1st free incoming minute) because my contract was not up yet and I thought it wouldn't be polite to call up and ask for a retention plan when my contract wasn't even up yet. Thats just my 2 cents, but it doesnt cost you or hurt you any to try to call up!

I personally think this is a silly statement! Obviously people are trying to get the best plan and best deal possible. Nobody is twisting Sprints arm and making them give him a better deal, they can always say no. Sprint wouldn't have any problem ripping someone off who has a crappy plan for a number of years. Can you even imagine Sprint calling a long time customer and saying "Sir, we notice you are on one of our old plans and we would like to save you some money by giving you more minutes for much less money". This just isn't how the world works. The only thing anyone is entitled to is what they are willing to give you. I say get what you can and what they are willing to offer you. If you don't like it move on to another company. Who needs to be polite about it, its business! BTW, I have seen some of the other forums slamming these forums for doing this. Why would they even care and what business is it of thiers? And this is just my .02

dirtrat,

My opinion is simply that if you take advantage of a company too much and too often that the company will eventually get rid of all of these perks that they have. Now maybe you're willing to suck every company dry and then just assume another one will pop up to replace it ... But I'm not. The retention plans are meant to keep people who are out of contract ... Not for somebody who has been a customer for 1 month. If people keep abusing this, then the retention plans themselves may just go away completely. Thats my opinion and you're perfectly entitled to your own ... but I've seen companies in the past revoke their 'good deals' in favor of one that doesn't really favor the consumer at all ... and the 'good deal' just went away ... No replacement!

Let's all get along

I'll call 'em tomorrow to see what they have to say. If they say "You, sir, are an idiot." I will wait for a couple months and call again

1 month free

$50.00 service credit for first month

$25.00 service credit for 2nd month

$25.00 service credit for 3rd month

Hope I did well, going to circuit city now to get a Sanyo 4900 phone for $155.00

No offense, but you've basically asked the same questions numerous times now. Either get up the gumption and call, or forget it and wait until later in your contract. It will never hurt to try, and all it will cost you to wait is $$.

Yes, yes I suppose. But I'll be re-assured if more people came forward who have tried this who are a couple weeks into their contract.

I admit that I didn't have the nerve yet to threaten to cancel service (my cell is my only phone), so I opted for the ugraded plan that had 300 anytime minutes instead of 200. I'm going to wait a few more months until I ask them for more. Who knows, but by then, maybe they'll have another upgraded plan for $34.99.

I must say I hate sprint. They keep making the time at which your night minutes later and later. In 1997 when I joined sprint night time started at 6PM. Now it starts at 9PM, sucks. Also, starting a couple days ago we get charged for checking our minute usage over the phone, altho we can check on this internet, crap on that. At least they told us this time, when they started charging for checking voice mail I never got a notification and went over on minutes that month :/

I have voicestream and I need to change my plan since it has no night minutes -> I have 600 anytime minutes and unlimited weekend minutes and I always go over. I had Sprint a year ago before I signed with Voicestream....can this retention deal apply to people like me who has had service with Sprint and are looking for another deal? Or do I have to actually sign on with Sprint before I call CSR?

I just got off the phone with Sprint. I called up, asked for cancellation and spoke to a retention specialist. I told her I've been getting crap service and my phone was on it's last legs (which are both true) and right off the bat she offered:

1000 Anytime
500 PCS-PCS
3000 N/W
49.99 /mo
1 Free month
$150.00 phone credit
Nights starting at 8PM

Sounded good enough to me. I think I could have gotten more if I pushed it but it's so much better than my current plan that I just took it. Just letting you guys that might be nervous about calling know that it was absolutely painless and took all of five minutes. Thanks for the heads up guys.

i called cancellation department. told them that i was upset about all of the dropped calls and wanted to cancell service. right after that i asked if there were any better rate plans they can offer me to stay on. they imediately offered me a few different plans. they didnt offer the one i got so i asked about it. i told them that a buddy of mine had gotten it a few days ago. they rep said that they can do it for me if i sign a 1 year contract.

i got

500 anytime
3000 nights & weekends
500 pcs-pcs
1 month free service
1 year contract

i wasnt on a previous contract. i have had sprint service for about 3 years.

Wow, nice! You must be a heavy user needing that many minutes. I only had 350 minutes before and that was really enough, have 500 now. I thought I did good with 1 free month and $100 in credits. Looks like the deals are getting sweeter. BTW I just bought the Sanyo 4900 phone, its really nice if anyone cares.

I am looking for a cell phone plan, thinking about buying one from Amazon since they have a ton of rebates.

How would that work? If I get a phone expecting the rebate, then I'd have to activate it and sign a year contract. If I do that, then try to get a better plan during the first 2 weeks, will I probably get it? And if I do, will I still be eligible for the rebates?

Not sure what the best route to go is. Maybe just buy a used phone, activate it and get a monthly contract, then call them up? Then I'd have to pay activation fee + $10 a month more for the first month though.....

decisions, decisions....

any ideas please pm me or post here.

Sprint can bite me. If there's a company that does less than Sprint to satisfy customers, I can't think of it. The moment my 1-year contract is up, I'm out. What do people think of Cingular, AT&T, Voicestream or Verizon wireless? What about T-mobile?
