Sprint can bite me. If there's a company that does less than Sprint to satisfy customers, I can't think of it. The moment my 1-year contract is up, I'm out. What do people think of Cingular, AT&T, Voicestream or Verizon wireless? What about T-mobile?

I said the same thing and agree about the customer service. The problem for me was none of the other companies were very good in the Bay Area and none of them could beat Sprints rates. The good news is how often do you really need to contact Sprints Customer Service, at least thats the way I looked at it.

Josh-
Last time this deal came around, I convinced my girlfriend to do it after only signing up for 1.5 months. I told her what to ask for from the cancellation department and she got it no problem. Give it a try, you'll most likely get a better deal!

Worst that can happen is something like the following:
You - "Sprint sucks, I want to cancel, unless you can offer better package!"
Them - "I'm sorry, we can't offer you anything else, are you sure you still would like to proceed?"
You - "Ummm... No, nevermind."

Good luck!

Omfg, I just spent the last 2 hours with sprint. Representatives are all over the place in terms of friendliness, accomodation and helpfulness. My situation:

I'm a cingular customer with 3 years behind me. Cingular in the bay area blows, so I decided to check sprint. The service is apparently better in my frequently traveled areas, but the plan I signed up on is mediocre. I called retention @ 1-866-762-0468. This is their direct number, bypassing regular customer service. Do not call them retention or use that word, it's bad.

Me: 1 day old sprint account. I was motivated, they assigned me a number with an amazing number as the last four digits. Way amazing. =)

Rep 1: Immediately offers retention deal despite my only being signed up for one day, apparently against their later learned TOS that states no retention contract for customers younger than 30 days. Oops. I was offered:

1000 minutes
3000 anytime
500 pcs to pcs
$50 handset credit
1 month service free
3 mo free wireless web
$50 month.

In hindsight I should have been all over that like like a priest on a schoolboy, but I said I'd think about it and thanked them for the offer.

Rep #2:

Hangs up on my ass after reviewing above.

Rep #3:

Hangs up on my ass again after reviewing above.

Rep #4:

Militant feminazi type. Wonders why I was offered retention on a day old account. Reluctantly agrees but says 2 year contract required. I say thanks but no thanks. Click.

Rep #5:

Wonders why sprint reps are smoking dope and offering a new account a retention deal. Checks with supervisor, says no way in hell, happy to disconnect my account if I'd like.

Rep #6:

Happy to accept the deal above, did not see subscription date. We chat about her charming accent and how it relates to dumb sh!t across the universe. Applies above plan, tries to throw in free wireless web but the system refuses. I get skiddish, say the web thingy isn't necessary in hopes of finalizing all this stuff. She shifts me to the automated contract line that affirms my plan, but it only indicates a one year contract, not two. We'll see. Says she'll keep hammering on the computer for me to receive the free wireless web regardless.

We'll see, but it looks like I got a kick ass deal. If your sprint rep is a tool, politely hang up and call back.

3 months wireless web

I was just informed Via E-MAIL today from Sprint CSR that the 3 months Wireless web is FREE for all new accounts. Its part of a ongoing promotion evidently.

Indeed, but the final rep was willing to throw it in for free for all months, but the system choked on it. I thought a rudimentary "hey this guy doesn't deserve this" switch was built in so I digressed. It's nice to note for those that are genuine retention candidates, though.

Hopefully she'll figure it out and I will get free web access..

I've had a retention plan for almost a year(650, 35.99), but I got the a500 when it came out, which requires a vision plan to take advantage of many of its features and still have had no luck getting a retention plan with Vision. But after trying vision at 2cents per kilobyte(which is extremly expensive, considering they charge you for the content you dowlonad as well), i have discovered its not worth extra $ yet, and is hardly an improvement over wireless web. the speed is not noticably faster, at least in any northern part of IL, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or New York. AIM does not work, period. the browser supports images, but not tables or frames, so you still cant view 95% of the web. they constantly shut down parts of the service for "improvement". If you are expecting sprints so called "3g" vision to be revolutionary, think again. sprint is only worth it because of its retention plans, but until they improve vision, and offer retention plans to boot, they suck.

Yep, I also have a Vision capable phone (Sanyo 4900) but didn't take any of the plans with the Vision option. I'll let them iron out all the bugs first and maybe check into it later. This is one awesum phone though and its a hugh improvement over my old SCH-3500. They asked me if I wanted that option but decided to wait. You would think they would be really pushing this though, I'm suprised they don't offer it in a retension plan.

Have the Sanyo 4500 and data cable to connect to laptop.
This is not the newer 3G phone.
Using $5 a month wireless web, and it works well for laptop connection to the net, but is super slow at around 14k to 19k.
Using wireless web, there is no charge for data transfered, only uses normal phone minutes.

Question is, if using the 4900 3G model in same manner, would laptop then connect at the faster 140k speeds, simply by
staying with the wireless web option, and not going with Vision? That way, no extra charge for data, simply uses your minutes
just like a regular phone call.

Sprint has ways of trying to charge for some things that could be free.
Good example is voice dialing.
The Sanyo's have it built-in, so you get voice dialing without paying the extra fee.
Yet they still try to get you to sign up for voice dialing option.
Is this 3G wireless web/Vision along those same lines?

You have some very good questions. I'll have to see what kind of speeds I get with the wireless web. I hear with the Vision that they claim burst speeds of around 140K but people are getting actual measured speeds of like 55K, still much better than 14-19K. If I get a chance I'll try it and see what I get.

I get about 8kbps on my LG TP5250 using the data cable.

I have been told Vision phones only use 3G data so you can't get the $5 WW option with those phones. If that isn't true, then I'd jump on the LG TP5350 with my $70 phone credit.

I typed "if all goes well" because the plan does not activate until next month.
I have already used part of the $100 credit to pay for my current bill for this past month, so everything should have activated properly, but the online status doesn't actually show tne new plan yet. It will show up once this month's bill is calculated.

Long time customer who had a $100 plan already.

Got:

2,000 anytime
300 bonus anytime
3,000 NW
8 PM NW start time
voice command included
long distance included
$100 service credit
$150 additional credit

$79.99 for two phones sharing, plus $20 for a third phone to share the plan. Had to sign a 2-year contract, but it costs only $150 to break it.

If you get a vision enabled handset, then you have to get the vision service or pay the default rate (.02 per kilo) to use the web. You cannot use the old 2g wireless web on the phone. Even if you keep the old wireless web package on the phone, when you connect to the web you'll be charged the .02/kb.

Upon review of your account, I have noticed that you do not have
Sprint PCS Wireless Web service included in your service plan.
However, you can still use it, but you will be charged $0.39 for each
minute you use while using Sprint PCS Wireless Web.

Please note that Sprint PCS Wireless Web is an option that you can add
to your service plan for $5.00 Monthly Recurring Charge.

This is what 2 different CSR's have told me in a series of E-MAIL exchanges in the last 2 days. I wonder if they just don't realize that I have the newer phone now and my new plan doesn't take affect until 13 September. The charge for 39 cents a minute is a far cry different than the claimed .02 cents per kilobyte that NutBucket is saying for the WWW. I've only used the WWW a couple times so far but need to verify I'm not getting charge 39 cents/minute before I use it any more.

I've been putting this off for a few months...
I now wish that I hadn't.

I was on:

$30.00 per month
300 anytime
1st minute free
(that's it)

Now;

$30.00 per month
450 anytime
2000 night and weekends
8pm start
500 PCS to PCS
1st minute free
$75.00 credit (for a new phone, and better reception)
NO CONTRACT...

Thanks guys
Terrific deal. I only wish we didn't have to "bark" to get fed...

Mazzhole, HOW did you get the $30 service with NO CONTRACT? I've been trying to do that for a long time because I don't want to pay more than $30 for any contract with so few minutes.

Right now, I'm at
200 anytime
800 N/W 8pm-7am
No long distance

I Changed from a $70 Family plan last April to two phones with 600 anytime, 3000 weekend, 8 pm start, and FIMF for $30 each for two. I'm thinking of adding another phone or two fror the rest of the Fam. Has anyone had success in adding on to the "special" deals we got? If so, how? Did you call and ask for Retention dept direct again?
Cheers

I called and just got this offer:

500 anytime
3000 off-peak
500 PCS-to-PCS
1 month free
$150 credit (she initially offered $75, but I complained about my dropped call/bad reception and she up'ed it to $150 so I can get a better phone)
1 year contract
$35.99/month

The only part I didn't like was me having to stay on hold for about 30 minutes before I got to speak with a rep. Otherwise, the rep I got is cool and very nice.
