Right now, I'm at
200 anytime
800 N/W 8pm-7am
No long distance

I called with no intention of dropping the service, but I made it clear that that was what i wanted to do.
When asked why, I told him the usual: I use it for business, I get dropped calls, I can't get reception from home,
My Verizon cell phone (wife) has more perks, there are much more aggressive plans available, etc...

He first noted that I was a long time subscriber and was using an antiquated phone...
Then offered:
$75.00 credit (toward a phone with better reception and range)

I responded great... but
What I really want is more minutes with better range... and NOT change my rate or lock me in to another contract.

He offered:
300 anytime
2000 night and weekends (starting at 8pm)
500 PCS to PCS

I responded that
I had 300 already and this wasn't enough for me. Other companies offered more.

He offered another
150 daytime minutes...

So I tallied the perks and said that I would give Sprint another shot.
450 anytime
2000 N/W
1st min. free
500 PCS to PCS
$75.00 credit
All for $30.00 without the contract
And jumped on it with feined reservation. (Is feined a word?)

Thanks again
And good luck
We deserve better when we've been customers,
yet new subscribers are being offered more.

just fyi everyone...

i called up with full intentions of cancelling, they offered me a (sh|tty) better plan (basically stock off their website + -100 anytime + 200 n/w) at 35.99/mo (im at 29.99 now). i said i didnt want to pay more and they went ahead and put in the cancellation. it seems to be based on the bill date, so it wouldnt go through for a couple weeks.

then i remembered how many damn people have that number as my *only* point of contact. i said uh-oh. so i called them back and asked if there was any way to reverse or delay that. they reversed with no problem. now i don't know if this is actually going to go smoothly as i haven't yet hit the cutoff date yet, but it doesn't seem to be a problem so far.

Wow, that's a bummer. You must got a really lazy rep. Right off the bat, I was offered the rate that most people have got at this thread. After that, it's up to how good of a deal you want to make it. I was able to get an extra $75 credit out of the deal. But then again, I've been a customer with Sprint for over 4 years. And the last 1.5 years, I was out of contract too.

i gotta know if there's a secret or trick to staying out of contract. I called in last September and told them I was thinking about cancelling and they offered me $35 for 350min and 100N/W with a contract. I asked if there was any way around a contract and they said I'd have to pay the $10 or be on a contract. I gotta figure out how you did it, Mazzhole. I've been with Sprint since July 2000 without a contract but now I could use long distance and more anytime. Any advice?

I just called and said I wanted to cancel because the rates were not competitive. She said, well what were you looking for? I said cingular was offering 600/3500 for $40. She said, well I will match that and give you $70 credit to your account (because cingular was offering new phone).

So she said, how is this plan?

650 day minutes, 8PM
3000 night and weekend minutes
1-year contract (I've been out of contract for about a year now)
for $35.99

That was exactly what I was hoping to get, minus the contract of course but I will take it anyways. I previously had:

350 day
2000 N/W
Wireless Web
for $44.99

Hey Asuh

No tricks from me. My conversation was basically the same as the text. But, I would think that if you
called to cancel, and not tell them you were "just thinking about it", it might help. I truly believe
that they are all capable of giving you this deal. However, some CS are nice, and will bend over backward
to keep you. While others are either lazy or are able to see through the bullsh*t better.

As for myself, I was sincere (lying), I was obviously frustrated (fibbing), I was calm (holding back), I was
aware of what was being offered to others, but didn't mention it, and I never let on that I was not looking
to drop them. There are better plans, they should upgrade existing customers, and we shouldn't have to
threaten them to get a few meager mins.

I think it all comes down to who answers the phone.
Be persistant, but polite. And if you don't suceed....
try, try again. Good luck.

Mazzhole, I agree with you. That's how I handled it.

You really shouldn't mention that you know that there are "plans." They are only "plans" in that so many others have received the same package, it's almost a standard offer by their department.

I actually works a little different. I believe there are set peak/offpeak combinations, then other options can be added on as you continue to negotiate. Bring up each complaint about their company slowly so that you can get just a little bit more each time. It's the art of negotiating, bring up your arguments as you need them, reserve some until the end. The 8 PM switchover, the 1st incoming minute free, PCS to PCS minutes, etc. are all add-on options that can be activated.

I was offered the same as SLEEPER5555, but I continued to hold out with another excuse not to accept their offer and brought it just a bit further. What you get comes down to how long you've been with Sprint too. You can expect to get away with more if you've been with them for a long time.

What I'm afraid of is the following (hypothetically):

Me: Hi, I've been getting bad reception and my phone heats up a lot, and people say they can't hear me well sometimes. I've been under the 1-year contract for 2 months. I would like to cancel.

Rep: Sure, we'll cancel your plan right now, that'll be $120 cancellation fee. Thank you. Is there anything else?

Me: (crap, what do I do, ask for more minutes because I get bad reception?? and complain about dropped calls and expect to get minutes?)

I read them all. I'm asking what if you don't get to the retention department at all, what if the CS simply obeys your request and cancels the contract without offering anything or sending you to retention?

Don't worry...Claire will automatically send you to retention. It's their job to offer you retention plans. They won't cancel your service without offering you retention plans. Just don't call up and say "Hey, give me a good retention plan!" Just call and kindly explain any faults you may have with their service, and they're sure to offer you a plan similar to those posted. Don't worry, the retention specialists are friendly!

well, this is what i got...not great, but better than nothing and they didn't say, "ok, you want to cancel, Done."

i used to have for $29.99 a month

200 anytime
1000 nights and weekends (starting at 8pm)

now i have, for the same $29.99 a month

300 anytime
3200 night and weekends (starting at 9pm)
500 PCS to PCS
$60 dollar credit for a new phone
and a free month of service

contract had to be extended one year, but i had one year left on my contract, so it didn't really make much of a difference...plus, with the 60 dollar credit and the one month of free service, i basically only have to pay for 9 months...i called, said i wanted to cancel, said reception was horrible, my roomate with verizon can get calls everywhere, including the basement (this is all true) while i have to go walk on the streets to get a signal...he said coverage should be ok in my area, only a few spotty areas, but new towers are going up...he offered $50 for a new phone...i said, but my roomate gets $150 through his work (i fibbed) and i can too because it's friends and family...he said he couldn't give me more than $60...fine...acted like i was reluctant to accept, but took it anyway...better than nothing...

I'm gonna wait a few months since I just got Sprint a week ago. So in December maybe, I'll call them up and tell them about reception, dropped calls, bad battery life, my phone heats up, and static.

free wireless web
$50 service credit
$50 handset credit

$50/mo.

did this like 2 months ago and got
600 anytime
3000 nights (8pm)
and wireless web for free for 3 months.
$29.99

she said to call back if i had trouble with the web and they would not only credit minutes during the 3 month trial but give me an extra month or 2 on it. (it uses your minutes anyway, so its to thier advantage)

My gf and I share a plan w/ 2 phones. We have the LG TP5200 and it's a really nice phone. Body Glove makes a kickass ION case that fits like a glove, and comes with a swivel belt clip for the phones. I have only had a couple of dropped calls this past year, and I plan on taking advantage of this info on getting a better plan. Thanks.

What a BIATCH! i called in the 1-866-762-0468 number, waited for about 30 minutes on hold, then the lady told me that she can't offer me the better plans unless I'm a customer for 3 months at least! Any suggestions for getting around it? All I did was tell her I would like to change because I can get better deals (I was with them for 2 days)

Oh my god, I just looked at AT&T's wireless plans and you get a National plan with free roaming on their network and free long distance for $35 with 500 minutes. Night and weekends are unlimited. So now I'm thinking why the hell did I go with sprint with the $35 for 300? I could just do that AT&T plan with 500 minutes and AT&T has better reception and better phones.

I signed a 1-year contract with Sprint just last week, can I cancel within 14 days or something without paying the sprint cancellation fee?

Bout ready to dump sprint PCS for real.

Moved from NM to AZ and just to change my phone number they want to "expire" my old plan and start a new one with less anytime minutes that costs $5 more a month.

SO. Called to see what they would do and they offered $34.99 for 500 anytime minutes, 3000 off-peak (starting at 8pm) and 500 PCS-PCS minutes.

BUT no free months and no credit towards a new phone.

So what is "key" to getting those added benifits???????
