I've been with SprintPCS over a year now, so my contract is up. I just called Sprint, said "Cancellation" to Claire, and told the human phone rep. that I was thinking about changing phone service. I asked her what other plans were available, and she only quoted the plans that are currently available to the public. Do I have to be more persistent and go through with the Cancellation process before they'll give a better deal? Or should I ask for the retention dept directly?

I guess my plan is pretty darn good but....
Its not that I actually want a better plan but more like what else i can pull off..
pretty bored earlier today so i decided to call up sprints retention line to see what other perks i could possibly swindle outta them. Low and behold I was able to add FIRST INCOMING MINUTE FREE to my already diesel plan!!
*this is something that many have been told doesnt exist anymore. Tho if u get the right rep, you never know! I guess i lucked out.

THing is i been meaning to get a new phone and i've had my eye on the Samsung A500. Possibly the best phone out right now for sprint even tho many may not agree. I have a $70 phone credit which i was trying to up but failed miserably =T
THe phone retails for 300 which is waaaay too much considering I only have $70 credit whereas i've seen others on this forum claiming they've gotten credits of $150 (now that's pretty sweeeT!) Even one post where someone said he got the a500 for free plus $150...now that's pretty hard to believe but if you really did that's mad luck right there.

If anyone reads this and knows really good deals on this phone please reply.
So far the best I've seen is on amazon for 150AR but that requires a new activation.
Other than that the COSTCO deal with has the phone for $200 including car charger, hands free and holster.
(And of course Free battery is always optional)

Another thing that I've been questioning is that I've never agreed to the automated 1 year contract.
THe rep that gave me the retention plan originally last week i guess forgot to send me to that and just assumed or something that whenever you change your plan you automatically renew your contract?? im not too clear on this..
if anyone knows please reply..
When i talked to my first rep today..she was pretty harsh and noted that she wanted to transfer me to the automated contract thing by the end of my call..thing is after she sent me I just hung up. THe 2nd rep i talked to didnt say a word about that so maybe I dont even have another year contract?? they were saying i agree'd to it but you need to confirm it thru the automated crap..does anyone know anything about this??

Thanks. Can't get the 8pm starting time for off-peak. Will try again.

As always, YMMV!

I'm sure they require you to renew a 1 year contract with them. That is what you are doing when you are sent to that automated contract where you "sign" it with your social security number. If you don't do this, I would go ahead and assume that you will not receive the plan you were promised. At the very end of my conversation with the CSR, my call was dropped. She called me back, left a message on my voice mail while I was trying to get back through to them, and said I would have to call a certain number to activate the agreement. There is no free lunch. They want you for another year.

FWIW:

I did not 'sign' any agreement - either verbally or non-verbally.

However, If I go to the PCS website and log in and does not display my account information correctly (though CSR confirm that it is correct). Still a warning is raised until I get my next statement.

Here was my exprience when I called yesterday...

First, I looked around on the internet for a few minutes to see what other providers were offering. I wrote down everything I could, including small perks and plan prices. Tell these things to the CSR when you call and they will know that you aren't trying to BS them. They aren't stupid and I'm sure they do their homework on these retention plans.

I am already somewhat aggrivated by my Sprint service because I experience multiple calls dropped every day while working downtown. I finally got CSR #1 on the line and told them my frustrations, plus that I was "considering dropping their service because there are other plans out there that offer more". The CSR asked me what I had found that was better. I clearly explained all details and prices I had found. Currently I pay $40 for 350 day/3650 night starting at 9pm. The CSR said she would give me 750day/3000 night starting at 8pm for $40. I asked about the PCS to PCS minutes and she said she would throw 500 of them in per month for free...just for asking!! Then wouldn't you know it...my call is dropped.

After finally getting through again, I am now speaking with CSR #2. I explain to him what happend and he pulls the info on my "new plan". He tells me CSR #1 has me set up with 3000 day minutes for $150/month!!?? :Q Quickly I expalin I have no where near $150/month to spend on a phone bill. I then tell CSR #2 the original plan that CSR #1 had offered me. Because of the dropped call, he said he would be willing to give me $75 credit for a new phone. I already have an awesome phone so I tried to negotiate more to increase the credit to make it worth my while. It didn't work and left me with no credit. Oh well, I don't need a new phone anyway. But there's more...

So while I'm nearing the end of my conversation with CSR #2, call is dropped AGAIN :| So, I call back and talk with CSR #3. I explain to him what happened and how rediculious this is. He pulls my plan then on top of everything I already have, he says he will knock off 50% of this months bill, plus give me next month for free! I say "Sounds good", I sign up for my new one year contract, and off I go.

By the way, I have only been with Sprint for 5 months.

Final goods received:
750 day/3000 night starting at 8pm
500 PCS to PCS minutes free every month
50% off this month's bill
next month's bill free
all for $40/month

I'm happy

If I were to pay for this amount of service from Sprint, it would cost $80/month. Shows you how desperate they are to keep customers.

I asked Sprint about this when I called. They said these "retention" plans are not offered to the general public. As a result, they have to jimmy rig your plan to have it work out the way you and the CSR negotiated it. My CSR said my plan will probably never fully show up correctly on the web site. It certainly will not show any changes until your next billing cycle. If you have doubts, call them back, ask them what your plan is, and write it all down.

NOTE TO ALL

If you want to make sure your call to a Sprint CSR does not get dropped, use this number: 866-762-0468 BUT you have to be calling from a land line to do so - NOT your cell line.

Then, they tell me that if I can give them a phone number of a coworker who got the same plan, THEN they could match it.

Sprint Sucks... I save 20%, but overpay 40% :|

If anyone who has a corporate discount and isn't under their 1 year contract anymore has any luck with this, please post it here.

In my personal experience, differences being a business customer and personal-use customer has been cut-down or even dropped. I get a 25% discount from them thru my company and free wireless web, but I've been able to sign up for consumer plans as advertised on TV (or wherever) on top of it. I just changed my plan this past week to that $30 for 300 daytime/unlimited nighttime. This has been true since about a year ago. Before that, they simply stated business customers don't get the same offers.

I dislike Sprint also (reception and customer service dept. always screws something up with their codes and billing)... the discount is the only thing keeping me.

So you don't have to be with Sprint for a long time to get retention. Or have your contract expired to get retention. Fonzinator, did you call regular *2 to get a rep or what number did you call to get each CSR?

BTW, does *2 incur airtime?

*2 does not incur airtime charges.

Look up two posts to my previous one and their is a direct number to Sprint's Retention department - just DO NOT call it the retention department - try calling them CSR (customer service reps) instead.

Yeah, I just used *2. When Claire asks you what you want help with, say, "I want to cancel my contract." This will get a CSR on the line.

Fonzinator, since you were only 5 months with Sprint, they know that you'll have to pay cancellation fee so why do they need to retain you? I mean, if you say you want to cancel and they see that you only have 5 months, they wouldn't try hard to retain you I would think. Did you charm them?

I called the other day three times because I bought a new samsung a500 phone. They finally connected me with a "supervisor" (probably retention department) and they said I needed a new plan because my previous plan was a retention plan but they can't add PCSVision to it, so I said what can you offer me, he says:

your old plan
650 Anytime
3000 N/W at 8:00pm
for 35.99

new plan
900 Anytime
3000 N/W at 8:00pm
for $40.00
plus Unlimited PCSVision
for $10 more a month (First 3 months free)

so I am now happy!!

I have been with sprintpcs for more than 3 years, and I am paying 49.99 for 450 anytime/2550 N&W right now. (it was a decent deal back then, like 2 yrs ago)

I just called this number 866-762-0468 like 10 mintues ago, after 3 minutes listening to the on hold music, I got the CSR on line with me. I just told her that I don't want to pay that much but I don't want to lose my anytime minutes either, so she offered me a couple plans:
1. $50 for 1,000 anytime/ unlimited N&W (8pm), I didn't take this one cause i really don't need that many minutes.
2. $40 for 750 anytime/ 3,000 N&W (9pm), I said I would take it if she can make the night minutes start at 8, so she spent like 3 minutes fixing that and also got me to 4,000 N&W, starting at 8pm of course.

I was really sleepy so I didn't plan to bargain too much, but I did ask her about free PCS to PCS, so she took another 2 or 3 minutes and got me 500 free PCS to PCS. At first she said it would cost $10 for that PCS to PCS, but I guess you just need to ask, most of the time they gave me what I ask for.

so here is what I got from a 10 minutes phone call:
$40
750 anytime/4,000 N&W (8pm)
500 PCS to PCS

I know some of you got better deal out of $40, but I am happy with it.
Plus I got a free LG5250 from them at the end of last year just by calling and complaining.... and they overnited it to me the next day.
I know it's not a too good phone, but back then it was priced $199, so I am really content..

All I said was "There's a Ruth's Chris" dinner for you if you give me what I want....okay, I didn't say that.

Here's my best guess as to why they chose to "retain" me as a 5 month young customer. It only costs $150 for me to opt out of my contract. That's not much at all, considering they receive $40 from me every month. So, if they can lock me in to another 1 year contract by offering me a great retention plan, they will make much more money on me in the long run. To add to this, the cellular industry is so cut throat right now that Sprint and any other company will do practically anything to keep customers. I'm sure their opportunity cost to keep me as a customer greatly outweighs any $150 I could give them by canceling. That's my best educated guess

Thanks, fonzinator, that was very informative. You think a 2-month customer will have a chance, since they're desperate to retain?

This really is not that hard. You gain nothing unless you ask - to do that you must threaten to cancel for better service. If it doesn't work out, and they think you are serious about cancelling, then just decline by saying you have changed your mind and want to reconsider....

Has anyone been able to get a 2 phone retention plan?

Right now we have the add-a-phone option and really like the shared minutes as normaly one or the other is on travel, plus it sure is convenient for billing.

Only problem is the retention lady keeps on wanting us to buy two plans.

Another problem with two versus one plan is that the unlimited vision is priced per plan no matter how many phones you have on the plan so the retention plan actually comes out as worse (for us) than the plain ole plan with the $10 per month for unlimited vission for both phones.

We may get a few more anytime minutes with the retention plan, but the plain ole plans offer unlimited PCS to PCS for free, unlimited NW plus unlimited vission for both phones for $10. I'm leaning towards just canceling my current plan and starting all over from scratch....

The retention plan I got was for two phones. Look back to my post on page 2 that details it.

If you have problems email me or PM me and I will give you my cell phone number and walk you through it.

If you can show that you are serious about leaving due to either service problems or a better offer from a competitor, I don't see why they wouldn't attempt to retain you. Make sure to tell them what specific offers you have found elsewhere that are better than theirs. If you don't do this, your chances of getting a better deal are pretty much shot. If I were you, I would say to Sprint, "Hey...this stinks (in a pleasant tone of voice). I just signed up for a plan with you only 2 months ago and already company XXX has an offer of XXX for $XXX that beats your's. On top of this, I'm having XXX problems with my service. I'm thinking about leaving...." That should get their attention.
