I signed up awhlie ago, 2 years ago, but then I changed my plan and that's when I can't remember when I did it. I know it was a one year agreement. Either December, or jan.

I called Retention Dept about 6 days ago and here's what I was able to get:

-1050 Anytime
-3500 Off-peak (8pm-7am + weekends)
-500 PCS to PCS
-3 month free Wireless Web
-no credit towards new phone
-no service credit
-COST: $39.99 + tax

I have been a Sprint PCS customer for 18 months and since month 4 or so I have called every couple months to get a new retention plan. Prior to this I had retention plan with 650 anytime, 2500 off-peak. I think I will call back and try to get a service credit since this plan doesn't kick in until this Wednesday.

When I call I try to be nice and reference specific plan from a specific competitor to make my threat to cancel service seem a bit less idle. It is hit and miss with the CSR?s so when you call, don?t have any reservations about saying ?I?ll keep my plan and think on it?, hanging up, and calling back again.

I have had 5 or so retention plans over the course of my Sprint PCS subscription ? the year contract is a pain but the retention plans make sense when you factor in: a) these plans (as far as I know) out-perform anything else out there for comparable price; b) the $150 cost of early termination is probably about commensurate to the total amount of overage charges an active phone slut like myself would expect to incur with a non-retention plan during the time period between now and the time when other carrier?s plans will catch up (this is a stretch perhaps, but $0.40 / minute for overage multiplied by 75 minutes of overage per month over the course of a 5 month period, the time period which I will expect to pass before other carriers bring equivalent plans to market, translates to $0.4 x 75 min x 5 months = $150; a bit of a contrived expected-cost rationalization but accurate for my usage patterns). In the end, I would expect that in worst case scenario, I would break even relative to not switching to retention plan.

Good luck ?fighting? with Sprint PCS retention.

I personally think that a 1 day customer has a chance to get a good retention plan. I'm sure sprint doesn't use it's network to the fullest and your $40 is more to them then just idling bandwidth on their network is. I say try this no matter how long you've been with them, but the longer you have been with them you may have a better chance to get more goodies. I've been with sprint a year and i've called the retention department twice already every time i was unhappy with my plan, they made me a happy customer and gave me an upgrade each time.

Well, I just called this last week (I have been with them for 2 months) and I got 400 minutes for $35, which is not too hot, but ok for now.

Here what I said:

"Hello. I checked my anytime minutes left on account, and I saw it was 34 minutes over. I have 300 anytime and it's at 334. Now, I have no idea how I could have gone *34* minutes over. I watch my minutes very carefully, and the 34 minutes is absolutely... you know I'm baffled. I don't know if it's a glitch or what.

And in addition, I'm somewhat disappointed in the service in general. You know, I got sprint because I thought your national plans were good. Now, I've had sprint for 2 months, and I've become annoyed by some problems with my service, such as, for one thing: poor reception, I'm always getting 2 or 1 bars of reception and even no service numerous times if I'm inside... and I'm in a big metropolitan area, Baltimore.

And on top of that, I'm always getting a few dropped calls every few days. You know. But the reception is a bigger deal because when there are no bars, I can't receive any calls coming in. I also added ringers and more, but I couldn't download any ringers for the first month. And finally I could download them beginning with my second billing cycle. That's 8 downloads wasted for the first month. So.......*long silence CSR seems confused about my complaints*"

Then the CSR started to EXPLAIN why reception was bad that if I were inside obviously I would get bad reception if there's no antenna on the building, and the 34 minutes overage is just that I've been using the wireless web too much. But initially no signs of catching my drift that I'm dissatisfied! And this is 2 CSRs saying about the same things, and not offering any plans.

This is not what others have experienced. Others say they complain about a few problems, and that minutes are not enough, and then they get an offer. Nobody else seems to have gotten LONG EXPLANATIONS of their problems. My CSRs don't seem to see that I was trying to cancel. My 2 conversations were basically the CSR explaining me why I was having problems instead of offering me something. I mean, that big paragraph that I said to them is pretty convincing, I think, eh?

And finally when I got the 400 for $35, I asked "do the night and weekend minutes start at 8PM?" and she said "no sir, 9PM" just a simple answer. Then I asked about "is the first incoming minutes free?" and she said "no sir" once again simple answer.

I'm curious if very many people have done this for Vision yet -- I've seen only a few....

Just called 1-866-762-0468 and told the rep I was ticked because I had heard people were getting better deals then what was advertised and he proceeded to hook me up. I was on the 500 anytime minute Vision deal before, well now I'm on 1000 anytime minutes and 3000 night and weekend minutes starting at 8pm instead of 9. He said Vision would not work with this plan though. Thinking about calling back and rebargaining but I don't want to push my luck. Oh, this plan cost me 49.95 a month minus my 10% military discount which still stays in effect. I think I could have gotten more but I didn't push for it. No free months and no vision......hmmm maybe I will call back.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I've only been on the vision plan for 1 1/2 months, I switched over to it after buying a Samsung A500. Sooooo, time on your current plan doesn't seem to have an effect on whether you can get the retention plan or not. I guess they would rather just give it to you then hassle with pissing you off. Oh, also, I called the 1-866 # from my cell and it worked fine, you don't have to only call it from a landline phone.

I am not a heavy airtime usage person and have been on a plan that gave me 250 anytime / 5000 n/w for $34.99/month. I called to cancel because I was planning to switch to T-Mobile for their $19.99/month plan. When I told the CSR why I was cancelling she offered me the following deal:

140 anytime
3000 n/w 8:00pm start
$100 credit for new phone

This works well for me because the T-mobile plan only offered 60 anytime minutes and 500 N/W, and did not include Long distance which Sprint does.

I am thinking about getting the Sanyo 4900 phone. Does anyone have any experience with this phone, good or bad ?

Thanks

As usual, I LOVE AnAndtech !!!!!

Thank again, for Wonderful Deals.

Being here costs me $1000's per year....but what JOY !@@@@@
Hahaha

I don't normally comment on ALL of the great deals I enjoy thanks to y'all .....
But here is my Sprint Deal this week .......

I got the following:

1000 Anytime minutes.
3000 Nights and weekends - Starting at 8 pm, instead of 9.
UNLIMITED LCS to PCS calls.
$50 per month.

Barbie (my Bride of 33 years) got (she has a different phone number):
300 Anytime Minutes
2000 Night and Weekends - Starting at 8 pm, instead of 9
UNLIMITED PCS to PCS calls.
$30 per month.
She also got a $100 Credit for a new phone, which cost $100.
(Shipped free also, I might add, and probably no tax).

And I get my corporate discount ON TOP of all of this.

I LOVE SPRINT !!!!!!

The phone she got, which is virtually discontinued, is a Sanyo SCP-4700.

She loves this phone also. We have no use for PCSVision at this time.

It took only 2 CALLS ...... To get someone "receptive."

Doing your homeowrk PAYS Big Dividends.

My advice is: Be Business like ..... and polite.
And well informed.

Good Luck, Mikey

Just called, asked about canceling, asked about the 9PM thing, and he said "That's the way things are, the 8PM plan is for people who have been on for a while and they were grandfathered in", then he explained how to cancel. Didn't seem to interested in keeping me as a customer.

The reason you didn't get a better deal is because you only complained about your service. You will get their attention when you say, "Company XXX has this plan that beats your's by a mile. On top of that, I'm having XXX problems with my service. I'm going to leave if you can't beat their plan." It's that simple.

Here is a thought...

After switching, has anyone received confirmation in writing of what their plan actaully is? I tried loking mine up on the web and was unable to. I was told that since my plan has recently changed I would have to wait one billing cycle to get the details online.

However, since these plans are not "standard" (they are not advertised publicly and are available only to existing customers to keep them on board) how will be know we are actually gettting all of the features we were told we would get?

Opinions and experiences appreciated!

For those of you getting 50% off a certain month bill, or free next month or whatever, MAKE SURE that they put it in the computer, and get their name.
I was given 500 curtesy minutes, and there is no record of it, so they expect me to pay. And many of their CSRs are surly mofos who act like you are lying.
I can't wait to dump Sprint.

NOw they are saying one of my 2 lines is a 2 year plan, which is BS--I never got converted to a 2 year plan.
If you want to cover your @ss, record your converstions w/them.

OK so I didn't read through all the posts....there's way too many. But here's the deal I got last spring by doing this:

600 anytime
3000 n+w
500 mobile to mobile
8PM nights
==========
$30/month

I'm also on a corporate plan with a 15% discount on the monthly fee

How do you get the corporate plans? Does your employer have to the buy the phone or does use of your personal phone for business work count?

Your employer has to have an agreement in place with Sprint PCS. This is the only way to get it. Then any employee of your company can get the discount with their personal cell phone. You don't even have to use the phone for work at all. The % discount is based off the number of SPCS subscribers from your company.

I think almost all cell phone companies do this - my company has agreements in place with Sprint PCS, AT&T Wireless, Nextel, and Verizon Wireless right now.

Oh well - we are a bit too small for that - only 6 employees and we all have different cell carriers...

I've been SprintPCS customer for a year now, called *2 and got this plan:

480 anytime minutes
Unlimited Nights and Weekends (start 9PM)
Unlimited PCS to PCS
1 month Free
$50 new phone credit if I purchase a new phone
1 year contract @ $30 / month

vs. old plan of 200min Anytime, 2800NW.

So I'm happy... for now

Well, I must have sounded wishy washy all three times I talked to them... Bastards. I went from:

200 Anytime
2800 N&W (After 9pm)
----------------------------
$30/month

Now Im getting:

400 Anytime
3000 N&W (After 8pm)
50 Roaming for 6 months
1st Incoming Minute Free
-----------------------------------
$35/month

Though I must say, that 1st Incoming Minute Free, looking at my last four bills is a minimum of 77 minutes to 116 minutes worth of call time! Worth it for me. Completely forgot to ask bout PCS to PCS calling. *sighs* Oh well. Thanks for the tips in all your postings.

I had a successful call with Sprint today. After dropping my 1 year old pos phone in a large puddle last weekend and not having the phone sound the same since I decided it was time to look into a new phone and service. I called up Sprint and the first time around they offered:

750/3000
8pm cutoff time
$50-$100 rebate at Sprint stores
$40.00

I was told vision could not be added to any plan with an 8pm cutoff.

They annotated my account and I called back about an hour later after thinking it over. The final offer was:

750/3000
8pm cutoff
$85.00 phone credit
Unlimited PCS to PCS
$40.00 wo / Vision
$50.00 w / Vision

Not too shabby since the big thing I was looking for was PCS to PCS and Vision. I'm going to call back and see if they will up the phone credit or offer a free month since Amazon right now is offering $250 off the Treo 300 to new customers.

Good luck!
-Ron

Update: Called back and explained that new customers ordering phones at Amazon.com are being offered $50-$200 off in addition to the Sprint $50-$100 off so they upped my service credit to $135, another $50 Well Sprint definitely came through this time and this makes up for the problems with their service I've had. I'm seeing other people are getting First Minute Free, but I think I'll be challenged to use all my anytime minutes now.

Update 2: It got even better today I went to Best Buy last night to purchase the phone and they were all out. I was bummer, but it was for the better. Today I went into a Sprint PCS store and they had the LG 5350 in stock. Not only that they were doing instant rebates for existing customers, another $50 off the cost! Then as I'm checing out they offer to provide me with home long distance, 50 minutes free each month, no activation or monthly free and 7 cents a minute. If I took the offer they would give me another $20 off the phone, so I did. This works out great becuase I did not have a long distance carrier and I use 10-10-811 when I'm running low on cell minutes, but that's not an issue anymore. So the phone worked out costing me $5, not too bad!

It will show up on the next bill. The web will not be updated until the next billing cycle also. Try not to worry. Always get the CRS persons name just in case.

Holy smokes! I'm so glad I found this thread. I've been a SprintPCS customer for over 3 years, and the plan I was on wasn't good, but I didn't want to go with any of their other "listed" plans, because they told me I would loose my first incoming minute. As mentioned earlier, that can be worth between 70-110 minutes of airtime or so. My old plan, just you all can laugh at me, was 500 anytime/free LD/free first incoming minute/$49.95 mo. To make matters worse, I went over the 500 anytime minutes in the last two billing cycles by quite a bit. I called Sprint this morning and complained that other carriers had much better deals, and that I wanted to cancel my Sprint service.

They changed it to:
$40/mo
750 anytime minutes
3000 Night and Weekend minutes, starting at 8PM (I could have opted for Unlimited starting at 9pm, but I don't think I'll use all 3000)
Free First Incoming Minute
Free Long Distance
Unlimited PCS to PCS calling

Sweet! I didn't get offered a phone credit or anything, but that's OK, because I don't really want a new phone. I have a Samsung 8500, and have yet to see another phone that I MUST have over the 8500...
