Dear god i hope its not true.......

The site is going REALLY slow, but its my local newspaper up in gainesville so im really doubting a hoax.

Spurrier to resign

After 12 years of success and controversy, Steve Spurrier will resign as Florida's head football coach today, The Gainesville Sun has learned.



Spurrier, who won six SEC titles and 122 games as Florida's head coach, will become a free agent and take offers from NFL teams.

According to sources, Spurrier felt it was time to leave the college game after 12 successful seasons as the Gator coach. He told his family of his decision Thursday night and informed Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley of the decision Friday morning and his coaches at a staff meeting at 1:30 p.m.

Foley will begin a search immediately. One name at the top of his list is Denver coach Mike Shanahan, a former Florida assistant.



JANUARY 5th????? And do you call coaches "free-agents"? Looks like it some might have hacked the site or something...

I for one being an FSU grad and alum would hate to see him go. There is no one better to beat than Spurrier. He is the quintessential villian to a FSU fan and it just wouldn't be fun beating anyone else.

What exactly is a coniption fit?

*edit* I'm pretty sure it's a hack...there's no way any respectable newspaper would run that picture of spurrier. It's blown up way too much and the quality sucks. Not to mention there's no photo caption + credit given for the picture.

I'm a Bama fan, but I personally hate to see him go. He might be a jerk, but he was a damn good coach and represented the conference well over the past decade.
