SpyMac beats Google to 1GB

Well, its on CNET, doesn't cost anything to sign up, and you can click through most of the questions on signup.
I don't see any great loss to giving it a shot. My guess is that it won't last, and they are just trying to get some free advertising.

I still haven't got my confirmation email, by the way.

Google's current Gmail policy advises potential users that "residual copies of e-mail may remain on our systems, even after you have deleted them from your mailbox or after the termination of your account."

That's worrisome. Free does not always equal good.

BTW, I doubt you will be using file storage on google anytime soon. I think they limit size of your attachments to 10 megs each. I suppose if you had an entire cd worth of pictures you could split them into 10 meg chunks if you were really desperate lol.

I think you're missing the point about webmail in general. You don't need your own PC. You dont need to configure each client with your mail settings. Wherever you go you have access to your mail, as long as you have access to a browser. Even if you configure Outlook on someone elses PC you still dont have access to past mail, outbox, etc. Its attractive for a lot of different reasons. 1 GB of storage means you won't have to worry about managing your mail either, like Hotmail or Yahoo. I don't like the idea of Google scanning the mail, but who's to say admins aren't doing it anyways!

I would be interested to see what would happen if you used this as a signup/junk mail account. Imagine the ads generated for you based on spam?!?!?

yeah you're missing one big thing, Outlook costs money. also, what good is a hotmail acct with Outlook if you're trying to receive attachments > 2mb?

It is not a hoax.
I like the fact that it does not require you to submit any personal info and allows you to use a hotmail address to sign up.
I will not be signing up for gmail because I do not like the intrusive ad based system they use.

Can you guys be POSITIVELY sure that SPYMAC won't be scanning your email? How are they gonna get an ROI on this...it costs them $$$ to be able to offer this service...

Don't tell me u guys are so gullible that you'll take what they say at face value... This is nothing more than a marketing ploy to drive traffic to their site...they timed this perfectly cuz now all the freaks that are crapping in their pants cuz they don't want gMail to scan their email...will now be flocking to SpyMAC like it's god's gift to humanity...

Bottom line....business are here to make money...pure and simple...and there's no such thing as a FREE lunch... I wouldn't be surprise if they are gonna be pulling the same stunt that gMail will be with their service....

SpyMac is not a hoax, well, their site isn't at least, so I wouldn't think that their GMail would be either. I actually visit their site daily. For the fact alone that Google uses software to scan your messages for targeting users for ads, I won't use it.
