Do you have to answer any of the questons that spymac asks of you? I left them all blank, but when I sign in all I get is "No valid Userdata detected !" I got the email from them right away saying all I have to do is click on the link. I can't even go into options and try and change anything. G(government)mail scares me so would like to try spymac.

Maybe I'm just missing the point here.

but I don't think they have PEOPLE at GMail read your email. Probably just automated software

I don't see what the big deal is. Not like I have anything to hide

As far as I know, there's nothing that prevents Yahoo or Hotmail from doing the same thing.

I'll be signing up for GMail when it comes out though.

I didn't get the activation email from Spymac for several days so I emailed tech support and got an activation right away. Since then, it is almost imposible to get to the email pages. Sometimes you get an error, sometimes it hourglasses for a while then nothing. If you are lucky, you get the email page after a minute or so. Nothing usable, at this time anyway.

i tried to sign up for spymac a few days ago using my yahoo email address. never got the confirmation / activation email. then i read somewhere that yahoo blocks email from spymac. i emailed tech support a couple of days ago politely asking for help with the activation. no reply yet.

between that and HoosierDadE's report, it doesn't sound like that hot of a deal to me right now.

I have been highly impressed with Googles services thus far, so I will certainly been giving gmail a try. According to their privacy statement, they dont "read" the email, a program scans it for keywords and then generates the ads. I also dont think google would risk their reputation by infringing on its customers privacy either. As far as Im concerned, if you are writing something in an email that you dont want google to see, it prolly shouldnt be in any email in the first place...

What completely baffles me is the whole "Google will scan my email" crap. If you take the time to read their FAQ, they say it's the exact same system that they use to put relevant ads on the right of your Google searches. How is one an invasion of privacy and the other ok?

gmail is free, if you don't like ad's, don't sign up, seems simple enough. I think the trade off of a computer scanning my email to put an ad on the web page is a pretty fair trade off for basically all the space I'll EVER need.

it's not like people have to sign up for gmail, so I don't see what all the fuss is about.
