From what I know they install a keyboard filter driver above the keyboard in the driver stack, they can use that to encrypt data, inject data, or hide data as it moved thru the system. Of course they need a component on the 'top end' of the stack to make the data usable again. AFAIK they do support FF, but I'll have to double check.
