SpywareBlaster v3.1

I have no affiliation with this software, other than I've used it for some time now. This prevents you from being hit with a lot of spyware out there. And it's small, and easy, it doesn't run in the background, and it works. This does NOT clean your system if you are already infested. So...

After cleaning your system with the various tools you can find out there, like the popular and free AdAware (regular) and Spybot Search & Destroy, (HijackThis, CWShredder, etc.) you run this to keep it from coming back.

This tool runs once (you re-run it periodically to get updates but that's it). I believe it sets up system security for browsers to block the sites, but honestly I'm not sure exactly how it works, I just know it does. The nice thing is it doesn't stay 'resident' using up your memory or slowing you down, or causing conflicts, etc. It's worked well for me, on a number of systems I've tried it on.

Yes, it Works with both IE browser/frontends & Mozilla Firefox.

You owe it to yourself to try this program out--if you haven't used it before. If you have, check out the updates, it's really nice.

Nice! I have been using SpywareBlaster for sometime now. Didn't realise 3.0 had come out.
New version has nicer appearance and more features.

I think one of the best new features (besides the GUI) is that the program now integrates with Mozilla/FireFox. Too bad for those opera folks...

I got hit with the "global-finder" browser hijack (a Coolwebsearch variant) a while back
and found that website... used "hijackthis" to help myself...

I didn't think fixing myself was enough, so I wrote a java proggy that "uses" their search services repeatedly,
which I presume I was invited to do, since my browser was jacked. (Some ISP's may frown upon its use....)

The 3 programs dman posted are on EVERY computer i build or service, and they are all on a cd in my repair kit, and on my mini-toolbox usb drive.

Three great proggies that when you show someone how much "junk" they find on a typical system usually causes them to say " oh my gosh" quickly followed by " no wonder my pc was so slow/look at how much faster it is now"

Too bad not ALL the features are free, but the ones that come with the paid version really aren't that necessary. Truly a great application.

can you even get spyware using mozilla/xxxxx? using it for 4 months never get it except when I use explorer.

These are great programs. Just a note; after you have run SpyBot SD and cleared out the junk you want kept out; be sure and immunize to keep these types of infestations out for good.

My one PC has been hijacked by something that redirects ALL searches to a site called "MySearch". This p!ssed me off big time, as I run AdAware, Norton, etc., and while I have now added the other three programs to my repretoire, I still cannot get rid of "MySearch".

Last night, I took the instructions to remove MS Java and will check tonight to see if that and my cleaning the Registry links has fixed it BUT I am not holding my breath. As it was after 2 AM, I had to pass until tonight to check and see where I am.

It seems to have somehow linked itself with the Google toolbar in IE. I just wish that all hackers, spyware creators, virus developers and the like become live organ donors and suffer a lingering.....you know.

Zetter after running all of those you might still have to go into the Tools->Internet options and pick the page you want.
