Hey--
Question to all of you programmers out there. I may have the opportunity to do some 'on the side' work using sql in the next couple months. I have these questions:
1) How hard is it to learn sql and get up to speed on it? I've got about 5 1/2 years of experience (computer engineer) using ada, C, visual basic, etc.
2) The application would be a sql database with 5 to 10 people connected to it. Not a complicated database or anything, in fact the actual database may not need changing at all, just the front end that they're actually using. From what I understand, their current sql application was wrote years ago but it doesn't really do what they want it to do (kind of limited). They want me to redo the interface to provide more functionality, and then later on add in web capability. Is that something that somebody like me could pick up and achieve in a reasonable time frame?
3) Are there any good IDE's out there for this type of work? Speed is a definitely a major factor, they can't have anything that's slow. I know that a lot of times IDE's aren't very efficient. I've used QT before for C/C++, something like that for sql might be good.
4) Lastly, what kind of time frame would you estimate for somebody to pull something like this off?
Thanks for the help guys (and gals). I basically know nothing about databases so I thought I'd ask here first.
