I would like to know what portions of windows 7 I can disable to conserve space on my 32 gb ssd. The available space is growing smaller each day, even when not installing anything and using ie privacy keeper and the windows disk cleanup program. I don't use many of the new features anyway. Thanks for your time.

Look around and you will find lots.

Do you have lots of RAM?
Do you use Pagefile?

You can install Win7 Ult 64Bit in as little as 8.5Gb. Hibernate can save you 3-5Gb as can pagefile if you don't use either. Otherwise, do you use your DVD? Many are swapping out their DVDs for hard drives and the SSD as the main drive.

I have another 160gb sata drive, but disconnected it to save energy. I use ultima 32 bit windows 7. Also using 4 gb of pc6400 with an e3300 celeron dual core. I'm not a gamer. I also don't need pagefile.

Yes...be smart and understand that the thread is no more than personal opinion on behalf of the OP. Many of the items he critiques are backed up not only by other sites but by Microsoft and Intel as well (ie Disabling Superfetch). If you are looking at crunching your numbers, there is an article here that discusses alternate methods of storage as well as a guide here that will explain methods as I described above. The latter guide is supports by several SSD Optimization and tweaking sites throughout the internet.

Your best option is to seek advice from a trusted source who can not only speak through knowledge and education but also through use of the methods suggested. You will find LOTS of people who will tell you how bad something is having never personally tried it themselves.

After all, the world was once believed to be flat right?

Actually, with Windows 7 just about any extra steps for optimization are personal opinion because you can just install it on any modern SSD (current controllers with Trim support) on modern hardware and it will just plain work.

o1die, since you want to save space, look at all the optimization opinions and try them out to see if they work for you in saving capacity without adverse effects.

Thanks for the advice. I will do more research and learn how to disable some items. Already used the regedit commands and checked the bios for achi but it's not listed in my biostar g41 board. Still figuring out how to turn off system restore.

Turned off system restore and deleted previous restore points. Gained about 4 gb of space. Using a patriot ps-100 ssd, which is low end, but it works. Thanks again.
