CytoSin this is an OUTstanding price! I was about to post this deal Even at the current listed price $309 US it is tempting for the EVO

@HOSED I was just being a hypocrite. "I don't know anything about Adorama Camera." I've noticed that the Adorama deals sticky is gone now, anyway.

@ctoSiN: According to the chart here, I agree that it is a very good price. The smaller ones have been at lower $/GB prices for short periods, but not that one, at least not that the chart picked up.

Using some "thank you" codes from Newegg I can grab a Samsun 840 Evo 500GB SSD for $278. That's $0.56/GB. I've been out of the SSD loop recently and I don't see this specific drive in this thread (besides on ebay...). Is that a good price?

How can I get one of these "thank you" codes?

So if i bought stuff from them in the past that wouldn't help? DO you automatically get those codes with any purchase?

No. Sometimes, after a purchase, you will get an email with several codes that are good for 48 hours (or less). It's totally random, but seems to be linked to how much you spent.

Also to how often you place orders. I don't spend all that much but I order pretty frequently. They figure if you're regularly placing orders they might get you to bump that order up some with a high-margin product brought into a reasonable margin by a coupon.

And judging from that sweet new HTPC of yours, it looks like Newegg owed you some coupons!

They did. And I didn't use ANY of them They expired too fast. Speaking of that HTPC, finished the build today. When Windows finishes updating I'll post the build thread...could be a while...

Which SSD would you guys recommend at 240gb?

I am in market for 240 ssd. M500 or the evo would you recommend?

Well, according to this obscure site I read recently, it looks like the Sandisk Extreme II and Seagate 600 Series are the way to go, with the Crucial M500 and Samsung Evo following closely behind.

As for personal experience, I recently bought a Seagate 600 Series 240 GB SSD to replace an old OCZ 120 GB model in my desktop. I'm very happy with it, but I can't exactly comment on performance, since it is limited by my SATA 3GBps motherboard. I also installed a Crucial M500 240 GB in a budget desktop I built for my brother and that's quite snappy.

As mentioned in the article, it's difficult to go wrong if you pick from the major players in the market. Jump on a deal that fits your budget and don't worry too much about the details.

But the first two are about 50% more expensive. I assumed that anyone who would be getting advice from here would fit the article's mainstream category.

But they have been on sale for even less so may be again in the (near?) future. I got my 2x 240GB 600's for $240 total.

My bad! I was looking at the prices for the ~480 GB sizes and only the current NewEgg prices at that. Looking around, prices for ~240GB SSDs are Crucial M500 < Seagate 600 < Samsung Evo < Sandisk Extreme, ATM anyway.

The SanDisk Extreme II is certainly much more expensive than the rest of the field, but the Seagate 600 Series is only around $10 more for 240 GB than the Crucial M500 last few times I've looked. I'd say that makes it the best deal.

There seem to be two vectors; performance and longevity. I might have misread the review/specs but it appears to me that the evo 840 pro and extreme ii have better longevity (read/write cycles) than the segate/m500. The 6009 pro seems closer to these drives but at least from the spec it did not seem quite as good. Naturally this begs the question of what you the consumer actually require. Still the comment is made to point out that there is actually an advantage to the more expensive drive.
